Numb, I couldn’t feel anything in my fingers and toes. I couldn’t even remember what I did the entire day. I couldn’t hear anything besides the ringing in my ears. I laid on the ice and was blinded by the lights in the arena. I knew it was bad, I’ve been hit before but this one was different, this is the kind where they say, it might be time to hang it up, if I had a nickel for every time some coach or some doctor said that to me, well I probably wouldn’t have to work anymore. The trainers came onto the ice and were yelling my name “Matty, Matty can you hear us!” I could hear them but I couldn’t respond. I heard them say “We’re going to need the stretcher. We need to keep the neck still, don’t move him, don’t touch him.” Now I was getting scared, I’ve taken some shots, most I remember, some I don’t. This one had me scared like never before. I woke up feeling better than I had most days, it was game day. There’s nothing better. I woke up in the team hotel with my line and roommate J.T. We had been teammates for four years now which is a long time in this league. We both played in the minors together, came up together and somehow got drafted on the same team, he was my best friend. We grabbed a cup of coffee and went down for the team breakfast. Guys had ice packs all over, that’s how the playoffs go, and you do whatever you …show more content…
Everybody had their headphones on getting pumped up for the game. Some guys talk quietly in the back but everyone remained extremely focused. In the locker room, everybody goes through their own routine, whatever it takes to prepare you to play. It was about 10 minutes before we were supposed to hit the ice for the game and that’s when Rick came in. Rick went over his strategy stuff, and gave his starting lineup. No one needs any extra motivation for the playoffs, so his speech was pretty

Pregame meals are an important part of most sports fans’ gameday routine. My routine involves eating a Chipotle burrito bowl in front of my television prior to Tampa Bay Lightning ice hockey games. I do this in good faith that my routine will lead the Bolts, as they are dubbed, to victory. Gameday Chipotle just seemed to fit because after all, hockey is a sport full of superstition and protein-crunching athletes. By 6:30 on Saturday evening, I was ready.…

We played our hearts out and were able to get a power play. Just then we noticed someone walking back to the bench, AND IT WAS BROCK. He had stitches all across the right side of his nose as he skated back onto the ice as my coach said “This guy really has no quit” Next with only 30 seconds left on our powerplay Brock got an amazing saucer pass from me to send him on a breakaway, as he skated past the faceoff circle he began to deke, first went left then he did a toe drag, but he wasn't fast enough as rival defenceman Lil Pump tripped him. Boeser angered looked over to the ref just to realize the ref was giving a signal, he spoke “Lil Pump number 14 tripped Connor Boeser number 6, clear the ice it's a penalty shot” The crowd went ecstatic chanting brock as he had a great chance to end the game.…

When a college athlete gets into trouble, it is important that the school issue a statement as soon as it can because the public will usually form its own perception about the event in the first 24 hours (P. Pedersen, K. Miloch, & P. Laucella, 2007, p. 280). With a women’s basketball player who has had multiple incidents since the beginning of the year, as a member of the public relations department it is vital that I would make sure to get all the information about the incident as possible from the coach and/or player. It is important when dealing with the media that you have all the correct information, if you do not have the correct information or all of it the media will more than likely try making it seem as if the school is trying to cover…

I run towards my friend and catch her as she jumps into my arms, and I spin her around before setting her back on the ground. I high five the rest of my team and they hit me on the helmet with their sticks. We walk back to our bench and do our cheer. “Good game -team name-, thank you officials, WE LOVE YOU FANS!” Following the suit of the other team, we line up and go through the line, saying “Good game, good game, good game…” I walk back over to the bench and take off my helmet and chest pad, keeping on the clunky shin and foot pads for now; I’ll wait until I’m back to the locker room to take those off.…
