Achievements; they are, simply put, the stepping stones to new paths and challenges in our lives. In my life and in the lives of those around me, I have seen time and time again futures being defined by having the courage to go after the goals that lead to success and achievement. Our personal achievements are not only the things that are impressive to those around us, but those that are unique, and meaningful to ourselves. In my life I have many such things but the ones that mean the most to me are, and always have been, the ones I have had to work the hardest for.
When I was younger, my personal and most valued achievements were found in sports. Competitive swimming was something I use to work very hard in and while I was never astounding, I put full effort into it. Sociology, literally the study of society, is something that seeks to explain and understand human connection and relation in all sorts of life experiences. From my personal experience, Sociology is a study that strives to help make better not only society, but also our individual role in it.
For me personally, I love being able to see my successes and failures taking me from old places to new ones in life. My choice to pursue Sociology is not merely a decision that impacts my studies, however, but also who I am with all my past and future achievements.
