My parents have allowed me to live freely to find my own mistakes, and fix them. They have encouraged me to be in extra curricular activities and to get a job. They have prepared me very well for college, as I feel I am a very well rounded independent individual. They have supported me through thick and thin, and will support my college decisions. My family is actually moving to Florida in June for my father’s work in the FAA, making my decision to attend college in Florida stronger. My parents believe in me and my dreams. I want them to be able to see me tossing my graduation cap in 4 years of the college that I hoped so high of getting admitted into. I feel as if I owe it to them to feel satisfied with how they raised me. They deserve to see that all of their hard work on me has paid off. From driving 5 hours to come watch my soccer games, to giving me my first car, I can’t thank them enough for all they’v done to support me and shape me into a confident young woman. This college is not only my first choice but also my parents’. I want to help give back to them by making them proud of me. I want them to expect big things out of me, including getting into

I would first like to thank Frostburg State University for accepting me in their institution and giving me the chance to further my education after my high school scholar years. I have enjoyed my time at Frostburg State University and with hard work I have been able to make the dean’s list and be accepted in the Honors program during the first semester of my freshman year. I hope to continue to work even harder during the second semester and throughout my school career. As a small university, Frostburg has enabled me to benefit from many things, such as the small size classes. Now that I have gotten used to college and life on campus, I believe it is time to continue to push myself to work harder and to attend an institution where I could be academically challenged and can be surrounded by many people who share my profession.…

Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…

Transferring to University of Maryland, Baltimore County will allow me to achieve my goals both in educational and personal aspects. The institution has a Biological Sciences degree which allows me, as a soon to be graduate from Hagerstown Community College with an Associate’s in Biology, to pursue and finish the next level of post-secondary education, achieving a Bachelor’s degree. In addition to pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences, UMBC has many clubs and activities to be involved in which will allow me to create new friends and provide a way to network with other students that has the same goals as me. Being a first-generation college student, I understand the challenges that students of similar backgrounds face due to not having parents to lean on for academic support. Having received guidance from different programs regarding the transfer process, I used the knowledge I obtained to do something that gave three of my closest friends, who are from similar backgrounds and don’t have such resources, an experience that would ignite the same passion and desire that I have to succeed in college. This was accomplished during the summer of 2015 when I researched, planned, and carried out a trip to various UC, CSU, and private schools throughout northern and southern California. By visiting new universities and visiting academic departments, I hoped…
