College Admissions Essay: Why My Father Is Important To Me

Growing up roughly ten minutes away from Fort Bragg, the nations largest military base, I have been blessed throughout my life with the special opportunity to witness firsthand the commitment it takes to constantly put others above oneself, and no person in my life has resembled this selflessness more than my father. Enlisting in the United States Army at the age of eighteen, my father would serve his country for 28 years during a time period that would take him across the globe, including two tours in Iraq. However, even with all of the time away from home, my father still managed to always spend time with me and to teach me how to become a better person. No matter the situation, my father would never complain, and he has always been the perfect example in my life of what it truly means to let go of oneself for the benefit of others. As for my mother, who is an immigrant from Panama, words cannot even begin to describe the sacrifices that she has made for me and my family. Even during the time when my father was deployed, my mother has always been a pillar for me to lean on. She has stayed patient with me even when others would have quit, and everything that I have ever accomplished has been because of her steady presence in my life. …show more content…
I have attended Northwood for 13 years, and I can honestly say that I have completely loved every single day. My school has instilled in me a powerful work ethic that I know I can take with me throughout my life, and not only have I grown as a better student in each academic area, but I have also grown into a better person who cares about the well being of others. I will forever be grateful to Northwood for being my second home for all of these years, and I am determined to one day gave back to the school that has given me so
