College Admissions Essay: Why Do People Cry?

When I was a kid, probably around the age of 7, I recall being about to watch television for the first time. Obviously, my favorite shows were featured exclusively on PBS Kids, or National Geographic. I soon learned though that my favorite channel was number thirty-two, also known as the Weather Channel. Around this time I began questioning everything around me: Why does popcorn pop? Why do people cry? Why do stars exist? I never stopped asking, and my parents never stopped getting annoyed by my endless pestering. But I was on a quest for knowledge, and when I watched the weather channel, I achieved that goal. I discovered that tornadoes formed from warm air meeting cool air, hurricanes occur during a specific season, etc. I realized that my interest in meteorology was actually me wanting to understand how things work, and I translated that into my life as I got older. It was my first time volunteering with this organization called MedShare, which is involved in humanitarian aid. The mission is to locate and dispersed unused, and safe, medical supplies to communities in need around the entire globe. While volunteering, I was in charge of packaging gauze pads and catheters, but left that experience having learned more about healthcare than I previously knew from the healthcare classes at my high school. It was here that I decided to pursue nursing, a profession that would blend my desire to follow science, curiosity, and spirit in wanting to help. Research is involved a great deal in the Honors College, as it is necessary to do so to write an Honors thesis. A topic I would love to look into to find solutions for would be the issue of sustainability in health systems not only in third world countries, but also all around the
