“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind”-Einstein. I am energised by the debates that are sparked by statements like this and this is where my love of philosophy has flourished; studying reason and argument at university is a natural and exciting progression for me. Philosophy and Ethics A level has encouraged me to build up my views as an individual, specifically exploring the Christian perspective of debates and how they contrast with other beliefs. to do this, I have read books such as ‘God’s Undertaker’ by John Lennox which takes a logical approach to understanding and opposing common arguments put forward by atheists such as Dawkins. Discussing some of the points made by philosophers such as Lennox within a youth Alpha group at church has encouraged me to pursue philosophy outside the classroom. This has helped to challenge and shape my views on controversial issues such as the legalisation of gay marriage.

Being part of the advertising team really founded my interest in business and working as part of a team. I have been reading ‘What Would Google Do?’ by John Jarvis which attempts to see the world the way Google sees it; thinking in new ways, solving problems with new solutions and looking at society and the economy in a different way. It appears that Google doesn’t seek to control people, but rather have people control it. This business philosophy fascinates me as someone who is very people-orientated and keen to work creatively in business. Having arranged a work shadowing placement at Glaxo-Smith Klein, I was then able to explore my interest in the area of Human Resource Management, experiencing the working world and understanding the issues an HR manager has to
