Although, it is a real eye opener when you see your neighbors and others from your community not receiving the same treatment. I have seen neglect and mistreatment among people so close to me, real problems that …show more content…
We all go to Newport Elementary, then proceed to Oltman Middle School in St. Paul Park, MN, then we finally attend Eastridge High School in Woodbury, MN. When we attend Oltman we are surrounded by more low to middle class families and students, but the big change is when we attend Eastridge where we are surrounded by almost solely upper class families and students. These individuals don't always experience the same problems and life issues that I have seen living in Newport, although the cities of Newport and Woodbury are so close to one

“Ángel de mi guarda, mi dulce compañía no me desampares ni de noche ni de día.” (My guardian angel, my sweet company don't forsake me not of night or day.) This prayer takes me back in time for the nights of my childhood as my mother would tuck me into bed. I believed it would keep me safe at night and for years it seemed to work. At the age of 11 I experienced some obstacles that would not only bring me and my family pain, but would also cause us to become strangers to one another.…

Expressing myself and what goes on in my head has always been a struggle for me. I grew up without a voice; not knowing what to say or how to say it. So I drew. I drew horses, I drew smiling suns with sunglasses, I drew bows in girls’ hair, I drew lions eating zebras while monkeys laughed at them, I drew whatever came to my mind. When I drew, I wanted to speak about my drawings, I would turn to my friends or my teachers and explain to them what was happening in my creation.…

A lot of the time growing up can be stressful, especially when you are in high school and you are caught up in the commotion of every day teenage life. Where to start? I was born on January 6th, 1997 so that puts me at 19 years of age and a freshman here at CACC. My parents are Jason and Kelley Skinner and I also have a 16 year old sister by the name of Shelby. My priorities begin and end with my family. Some people would call me out and tell me I’m wrong for having them set that way, and I may very well be, but that’s just the way I am at this point of my life.…

Being super confident and comfortable with myself has never been my strong suit. Growing up the youngest of five was hard enough as it is without everyone constantly comparing me to my older sisters; I was always the last included in everything when it came to them. I was always “too young” or “not cool enough yet”. Having five sisters who all had their own activities and their own talents made it harder to find my own; It was a forbidden sin to be interested in the same activity as one of my sisters, and if I was I just constantly was compared to the sister who had done it before I had. This made me extremely shy and insecure about who I was.…

Social classes are often invisible to young people like myself that have yet to solidify their own independent role in the real world. Therefore, I would classify myself as the lower-middle class that I believe describes my parents. The education my parents got was not ideal to what other parents around us had. My dad did not go to college and my mom went for a semester and had to drop out for personal reasons. They got lucky and both of them got well-paying jobs.…

There are many things in my world that make me happy and many things that I like to do.  I like to spend time with all of my friends in the city, where I live.  We often play games, cards, play music, or just watch movies.  Sometimes we ride bicycles or skateboard.  I like to see live music and go to festivals in the city.  For work, I build windmills and watermills in beautiful places all across America.  I get to travel quite a bit for work and I enjoy that.  I like my job very much.  I also like to have a nice home.  I have a vegetable garden in my yard and plants in my house, and I tend to them every day.  My house is very small, but it is comfortable.  I love to learn.  I am facinated by space and science.  I often study swedish, among other things, in a café, a library or at my home.  I like to learn to identify native plant species and birds.  I like to read books.  But there is little time in the world I enjoy more than time spent deep within sparsly seen and unadulterated nature, far from the beaten path. …
