24 Short Hours
A lot of people say that they don’t have enough hours in a day to complete everything they want to complete. Imagine if they had one day to live, how would they feel about those very short twenty-four hours. I would not be the one to want to know when I die, but if I was to know that I was going to die exactly twenty-four hours from now, I definitely wouldn’t be typing this paper right now. Others may want to do something crazy, just to make themselves feel accomplished before death. I would want to spend the entire day with the people I love. I know that is cliche, but the people I love is all I care about. On the day that I only have twenty-four hours to live, I would start out by letting all my loved ones that don’t already know that I will be deceased by the end of the day. I’d like to spend the entire day with the love of my life, although I am young, I believe I have already found her.

We are put on this earth to love, and I wholeheartedly believe that. My last twenty four hours are going to be based on what I’ve done my entire life. Who have I brought into my life that would be in those last twenty-four hours? What have I loved to do while growing up? Each decision I make won’t have affected whats going to happen in my last twenty-four hours, but some decisions I’ve made in the past will. We should live our lives like this, knowing that a decision that you make can change your life forever, and you may never even know. You see thousands of people in a day, and you may never see that person again in your lifetime, what if that person is the love of your life that God has set you up with? But you were too chicken to walk up and introduce yourself, so you never had the opportunity. Life is all about decisions, and these decisions do affect my last twenty-four

Were all destined to fulfill a purpose in life in which we want a path that guides us without being so laborious. It's like a seed sprouting in the spring, the seed grows and flourishes into a beautiful flower all through summer to only wither and die in the cold winter, but it must all take place in order to regenerate. As humans were lit up with the seed of aspirations to then face yourself with obstacles that you never expected. We all want to get to those aspirations or the blooming stage, but it is equally essential to pass by the bloom and face the unawareness of life's reality before the new seed can be born. In Paul Kalanithi’s memoir When Breath Becomes Air, he teaches the reader that although time is limited and death is inevitable, life can still be meaningful and have a purpose, even if it is as simple as helping an individual find the strength to overcome whatever hardships they may be forced to face. The beginning of the book starts off with Paul reflecting on what death is and what it means. In one event at the beginning of his book, years before being diagnosed with lung cancer, he was working as doctor and helping a pregnant woman who was having distress with her unborn twins. The twins ended up being born prematurely and since there was a lack of development in their organs, neither newborn survived longer than twenty-four hours.…

Shelly Kagan’s book “Death,” unravels one of the constant pursuance of humanity: planning our lives according to our needs and desires without thinking that death could be an interruption. Some people commence planning their lives at a young age by attending grade school because they are preparing themselves for high school, which then prepares them for college, for the one hope to achieve their ideal career goals and aspirations. Since there is no way we can stop death from interfering with our lives, would it not be nice to know when we will actually die so that we could then plan accordingly? Many would disagree that it is a pleasant idea, because they may believe that by knowing their time of death, they will fall into a nightmare of constant…

In Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, “A Psalm of Life”, he expresses two key values: to be zealous about living and to appreciate life in its entirety. From the start of the poem, Longfellow contends that “life is but an empty dream!” and that it is not a fantasy, far-fetched, and difficult to create into a good reality. He believes “the soul is dead that slumbers”, because those souls have lost the motivation for life as they think “the grave is its [ultimate] goal”. I agree with Longfellow with this value, because if a person doesn’t have a passion to live, then he/she won’t have the will to accomplish anything. The passion serves as the hero of a person’s life, and without that passion we will be “like, dumb, driven cattle” who don’t have…

But when that time comes, my fear of death will be similar to the fear that I experience when the car of my roller coaster at Cedar Point slowly ascends the first hill, just before the plunge. The ride itself is enjoyable, but the anticipation that leads up to it can be nerve-wracking. The same is true of death. In my moments of insecurity at the end of my life, I will find comfort in the fact that love, peace, reunion, and explanations to life lessons await me on the other…
