Mindfulness allows myself to enjoy each step on the path toward my goals and my easy-going way put my colleagues at ease and they often comment how they admire how I connect with all types of people, fostering a diverse and enriching network. But, being more relaxed, less competitive, more reflective, slower to anger, I found myself, at times, too relaxed and laid-back and maybe I did not reach the uppermost of my career. But, I do have a healthy heart and awesome blood pressure. In the end, I love myself and my personality, laid back, joyful and taking the time to watch the grass grow and sipping a glass of wine.
Not Taking Time Off to Refresh
Attendance, being present, is serious for a leader, hence leading by example is important. I, on the other hand, did not time off when I should, resulting in exhaustion. It was the fear of a full email inbox and my lack of delegation. One time, I finally left work, diagnosed with strep throat and missed four days of work, after being scolded for not coming in sooner. So, managing my health has become a priority, not only for myself but my peers and subordinates. Engaged employees want to know you trust them and value their input, let them discover their own potential without being micro-managed.
