“Tip Tap Tip Tap”. I hear the same cat-like clicking noise coming from behind the door to my right as I open my eyes groggily. “Click” I hear the door turn and open. As the noise gets closer to me, I notice the white sleeves of a long button-down shirt from my peripheral vision and immediately close my eyes, pretend to sleep and pray that I receive liberation from the painful prison. And as I hear my mother speaking with the scary man, I remember wondering why his lab coat was white. Growing up, I was a regular visitor of the doctor’s office, whether it was a pediatrician, surgeon or even a neurologist. Initially, I disliked them in fear of being reacquainted with the pain I felt from undergoing multiple surgeries after a car accident when I was five. Slowly, I became more curious about the little things I noticed around me, one of which was why a doctor’s lab coat was white when it would be hard to wash off if they were to get something on it. After much research and asking around, I learned the history …show more content…
I aspire to be involved in my community, explore my surroundings, and expand my horizons. I recognize that learning isn’t solely gained from classrooms, but also from the people we meet and experiences we encounter in life. To me, learning is competency based, every day a new challenge to surpass in the race against myself. Theoretically, I can estimate what to expect, but in practicality, a person must don multiple personas, sometimes even in unconventional ways. This epiphany has led me to conclude that I do not want one hobby, talent or interest to represent who I am. I want to be a girl scout leader, but also a basketball team player, diplomatic delegate, mathematician, NHS scholar, cultural dancer, service oriented LEO, tech savvy roboticist, human rights activist, and religious devotee. In essence, I want to be versatile. For this, I simply must adapt to seeing the hurdles in the

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

Time To De-Liver I was sitting on a cold, metal table in a stark, white room smelling of over sanitization when I heard a soft tap on the door. The doctor was here. I stared up at him in my paper-thin dressing gown, eyes wide with hope, and yearning for him to say the words I longed to hear. Much to my dissatisfaction, however, his eyes looked tired and dull. His wrinkled face frowned, and he shook his head.…

The question of our childhood seemed to be one that we can all recall: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Typically, we would say things like, “I want to be an astronaut,” or, “I want to be a princess.” As kids, we think big; however, as we get older, we figure that these aspirations to be a ballerina, to be the president, become more farfetched. Instead, we set more day-to-day based goals. Our goals change all the time.…

Having my spot close to the finish of the line, I looked apprehensively at the several individuals holding up before me. What had I gotten myself into? My psyche dashed, endeavoring to consider reasons to leave as I spent each moment agonizing over how cumbersome I may feel, how I don't know how to move, and how awkward the entire night would be. Before I knew it, the finish of the line turned into the start, and my turn arrived. "Jerrious," I heard a lady say.…

All of my short life I've seen a vivid dream. One where I sit with a ticket in my eager hand, staring out the window of an airplane a million miles in the sky thinking "what next"? With my hard earned Master's degree in psychology and the freedom to start anywhere I choose at hand the possibilities are endless and overwhelming. Even now, as I reminisce on the decisions I've made in my past that have gotten me where I am today. The thought of regretting the hardship I faced throughout high school and the wild ambitious years of my college days never crossed my mind.…

With the high demand for students to obtain a college degree, the majority of society assumes high school seniors should make college the next step in their lives. However, going to college and actually completing the journey is much easier said than done. Many factors such as the price of tuition, the increased competition for scholarships and admission, and the level of support and encouragement one has affect those "college times" in a person 's life. An aspect of this journey that really stands out to me is the use of programs that aid first-generation college students. From the financial aid to the programs ' mentoring benefits, these programs can make a huge difference in the lives of so many people hoping to obtain the education they…

An aspect of high school I learned over the period of four years truly fits a common used cliche: it’s what you make of it. Throughout these fours years the amount of opportunities around me were incredulous and although not all of them could be seized, I beleive I made the most of my high school career. And when I say opportunities this includes not only a time of “free” education in the classroom, but also opportunities outside the classroom and my surrounding community. Building character and leadership skills is just like building a skyscraper; once the foundation is cemented in the ground each opportunity we have in our lives we must add another story to the structure. High school is a period of time where not only the precedent is cemented in but also where the skyscraper can rise from the ground to the sky.…
