The Uncertainty of Impermanence For as long as I can remember, I have never really been able to sympathize with religion. The ideas presented were often too far-fetched or otherwise outlandish for me to appreciate. I have always been more for the sciences. This is not to say that the two cannot coexist, rather that the systematic nature of science has always appealed to me far more than the more ethereal nature of religious thought has. That being said, now that I have learned a bit more about Hinduism, and now that I have been able to step back and examine my life, I find that there is much about Hinduism which I can thoroughly appreciate. The system of karma, the belief in an open interpretation of how Brahman can be seen in everyday life, …show more content…
The most relatable aspects of the religion, to me, are its embracement of impermanence and the idea of karma. By embracing the fact that nothing can last forever, like those of the Hindu faith do, the field of physics is able to revive itself, to live life anew. In the same way, a large portion of college, so far, has been building up to something larger than myself and then knowing that that product, which I have poured a small fraction of my very being into, will soon become trivial. At the same time, while building this greater object that I am able to acknowledge is finite in its existence, I also acknowledge that the true meaning of what it is that I am making does not lie within the physical product, rather the true value is how it changes me as a person. How that work, that good karma, allows me to broaden my understanding of the world and become something new and greater than before. It is only through the way in which Hinduism has altered the lens through which I view the world that I was able to see

Only Time Will Tell Have you ever wondered where you’d be in life if it wasn’t for that special someone? Well, if it wasn’t for my younger brother Alex, I would more than likely be in a very dark place in my life. When my brother was only two years of age a school bus ran him over. The impact of the school bus running over a portion of his body almost killed him right in front of me. I was only six at the time, and I can’t help but think, if he didn’t make it through that accident on that horrible day, how my life would been completely different now, and not in a good way.…

From the moment we were born, to the last breath we take in this world, humanity itself has always strived to reach the ultimate perfection. Society itself is obsessed over the utopian-like idea of perfection, to the point of it seemingly being projected to people as the epiphany of their human purpose. I too, became one of the countless people who became infatuated with the idea of perfection; I tried to get the perfect grades, to write the perfect speech and to live the perfect life. I made the fatal mistake of not distinguishing between reaching excellence and perfection; and because of this, I found myself running in vicious circles, trying endlessly to pursue what can never be attained in the first place. Failures after failures to achieve…

It is often said that teenagers begin discovering themselves in high school, but I did the opposite- I lost myself. The source of my pleasure and delight shifted from books to parties, writing to boys, and video-games to my social life. Something within me desperately craved to be normal- to no longer be the girl that gets harassed and ostracized for being an “appalling nerd” and because of this, vital aspects of my personality began to change and I morphed into an entirely different person. Through this journey, I learned that my self-hate was a catalyst for self-love and appreciation. Having always been considered an unusual girl in the eyes of my peers, I'd never been truly comfortable in my skin.…

The “P’s” of Life While tossing and turning in bed one night, I came to a life changing realization: there are many “P’s” involved in the search for the perfect college, and every hopeful soon-to-be college student, centers their decision around a different “P” word. Some must focus on price, while others have the luxury of focusing on place. Some highlight the importance of good professors, while others prioritize the students they will be learning with, the people. Some investigate a college’s philosophy, while others search for a match with the schools political beliefs. I firmly believe that no matter which “P” word a student chooses to concentrate on, they are fully able to find the college that will help them reach their ideal self within their given criteria.…

The things that I see as challenges to me, is that I set high expectations of myself. Because of having high expectations, I tend to take on too heavy of a caseload. I have taken notice of this over the years; to prevent from falling behind I have learned to adjust my desire of the work. I want to accomplish, with that, I can accomplish in a timely manor. As I get involved in my work I vest myself in a project an can lose track of the amount of time it take to accomplish the task, because I’m thorough in making sure I complete the task correctly.…

A place where you can reevaluate yourself and take charge of the situation. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have dealt with failure many times; from a small child to even now as an adolescent. When I was little, I had a hard time in school; not with just one subject, but with most of them.…

The Houston runway was quickly disappearing beneath me, the plane ascending, leaving my stomach dismantled on the tarmac. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I was truly on a plane, by myself, headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina. My mother laughed at the thought of me living abroad; consistently making it known my ideas were childish, financially unstable, and unattainable. With a slight grin pulling at my lips, I close my eyes and begin to wonder what the world will look like on the other side of that airplane door.…

In high school I was an A average student who was always involved in extracurricular activities. From sports to honor societies, I was an active member of most. “It won’t be this easy in college.” I believe every high school teacher has said something around those lines at least once to their students. While the statement is somewhat true, the idea can easily be debunked with the statement “It is only as hard as you make it to be.” My experience with English 1010 was that it indeed was challenging, but not hard. I stayed on top of my assignments and did my best on them so I wouldn’t feel the assignment was completed half-heartedly.…
