College Admissions Essay: The Transformation Of Myself

Improved Essays
Being super confident and comfortable with myself has never been my strong suit. Growing up the youngest of five was hard enough as it is without everyone constantly comparing me to my older sisters; I was always the last included in everything when it came to them. I was always “too young” or “not cool enough yet”. Having five sisters who all had their own activities and their own talents made it harder to find my own; It was a forbidden sin to be interested in the same activity as one of my sisters, and if I was I just constantly was compared to the sister who had done it before I had. This made me extremely shy and insecure about who I was. Granted having five older sisters wasn’t always a miserable thing, once I was “cool” and “old” enough for them; specifically, I found it easier to find myself. I could see myself picking up different traits from each sisters. Along the way of my eighteen years of life I have found a handful of ways to help fix my lack of confidence. …show more content…
The biggest life lesson that I have ever learned was that not everybody is going to like me, and that is alright; I was not put on God’s green earth to be the most likable person. I am here to be myself and find the right people to vibe with and also to be somebody and make my life worth it. I’ve learned that I can not force people to like me, no matter what I do or how I act, there is always going to be someone who does not like me; It is okay though. Once I learned to not stress out about my popularity level amongst my peers, my self love grew tremendously;I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Having self love is the best decision I ever made for myself; for example, I became more independent and I do believe that I became emotionally stronger; little things did not bother me as much anymore. Learning to love yourself is the key to a high self

Mussell states, “acceptance from others is the basis for the emergence of self-acceptance and self-esteem” (Mussell, 2005, p.118). I have low self-esteem and I tend to shy away from people. I often do not speak my mind because I feel what I have to say is not valued. I think my low self-esteem is a result from when I was a child. As a child many of my ideas and suggestions were constantly disregarded by my older brothers.…

When I was younger, I struggled to support any friendships for an extended period of time. Before I moved to GCMS School district, I had previously attended three separate schools for the same few reasons. My parents could not afford to live where we did, one or both lost their job, or the environment was not suitable for our family. Moving so often made it difficult to keep in contact with old friends, and even more difficult to make new ones. As I was shy and introverted, it was an intimidating and terrifying situation.…

Throughout the majority of my life, I was self-conscious and constantly worried about how I was perceived by others. As a child, I had always felt slightly out of place among my peers. I was just a little too quirky to fit into any of the groups at my school and I was too shy to force my way into one. I could not exactly understand what made me so different from my classmates and I desired more than anything to gain the self-confidence to express myself.…

It is often said that teenagers begin discovering themselves in high school, but I did the opposite- I lost myself. The source of my pleasure and delight shifted from books to parties, writing to boys, and video-games to my social life. Something within me desperately craved to be normal- to no longer be the girl that gets harassed and ostracized for being an “appalling nerd” and because of this, vital aspects of my personality began to change and I morphed into an entirely different person. Through this journey, I learned that my self-hate was a catalyst for self-love and appreciation. Having always been considered an unusual girl in the eyes of my peers, I'd never been truly comfortable in my skin.…

For as long as I can remember, movies and television have been my escape. No matter what was going on in my life, I could always get lost in the fantastical adventures of Star Wars or even the mundane happenings in The Office. With each new story that I consumed, my mind created five more. For me, writing just started out as a way for me to clear all of these thought-tangents out of my head. I would keep random journals everywhere and just jot down whatever came to me throughout the day.…
