I grew up watching Disney movies. I loved to sit right in front of the screen and sing along with every song, but I didn’t understand the hidden meaning behind all of the stories until now. My favorite song from the movie Cinderella, is called “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”. When I listened to this song recently, I focused more on the words than I had before and I found a verse that I really liked. “No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.” Ever since I was little I have been living by that verse without knowing it.
When I was younger, I was always told that I could do anything I set my mind to. Back then, that was simple things like riding my bike without training wheels or reading a book all by myself. I still think about that saying at least once a day, “I can do anything I set my mind to.” I’ve been able to do things

These possibilities can be anything from kicking a soccer ball to making the national soccer team. This year, I am setting my mind on making the school soccer team. It might be difficult, because there are so many people, but I know that I’m a good player. All I have to do is work hard and keep my mind focused. If I do those things I have a better chance at making it than I did before. Making the team is just like anything else; it might be challenging, but if I believe in myself I can do it. There have been so many times when I didn’t think I could do something, and by thinking I couldn’t, I never did. When I believed I could, I did. For the longest time, I always thought that I was never going to be able to learn how to juggle a soccer ball. Recently, I tried it again, but this time I was determined. I was going to practice and practice until I could get to at least ten, and I did. This might not be a lot to some people, but it was to me because it meant I was improving. When I’m determined nothing can get in my

“Beep Beep Beep” It is 5 am and my hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in my head start telling me that it is too early and too dark to get up. But I did not ask for their opinion, I rise like a phoenix and before I know it, I am drenched in sweat and walking out an empty gym in route to the soccer field. Burr! It really is freezing at 6:45 a.m. on a January morning. I shiver as I stand there in the wet grass waiting for soccer practice to start. “What time is it anyway,” I wonder out loud. Of course, I am super early to practice so I can stretch out the knee I injured last season. At least that’s the reason I give my mom, but in reality, it helps my nerves to be there before anyone else.…

From the moment we were born, to the last breath we take in this world, humanity itself has always strived to reach the ultimate perfection. Society itself is obsessed over the utopian-like idea of perfection, to the point of it seemingly being projected to people as the epiphany of their human purpose. I too, became one of the countless people who became infatuated with the idea of perfection; I tried to get the perfect grades, to write the perfect speech and to live the perfect life. I made the fatal mistake of not distinguishing between reaching excellence and perfection; and because of this, I found myself running in vicious circles, trying endlessly to pursue what can never be attained in the first place. Failures after failures to achieve…

It is often said that teenagers begin discovering themselves in high school, but I did the opposite- I lost myself. The source of my pleasure and delight shifted from books to parties, writing to boys, and video-games to my social life. Something within me desperately craved to be normal- to no longer be the girl that gets harassed and ostracized for being an “appalling nerd” and because of this, vital aspects of my personality began to change and I morphed into an entirely different person. Through this journey, I learned that my self-hate was a catalyst for self-love and appreciation. Having always been considered an unusual girl in the eyes of my peers, I'd never been truly comfortable in my skin.…

There isn’t one thing in particular that I regret doing or not doing. It’s simply my reluctance to go take more risks and go through it, whatever that it may be.
