The Hardships of My Life I haven’t had an easy life. Most kids my age have problems with not starting on their sports team or struggling with their schoolwork. My problems consisted of deep depression, extreme social anxiety, dropping out of school, and not having any friends. I wouldn’t wish the troubles I’ve endured on my worst enemy. There were many times in my life when I thought, “What did I do do deserve this”. I’d stay up late at night having the same thoughts over and over again. I’ll admit, there were times when I just wanted to end it all. However, I was able to push through these problems and become a much better person. A person who is no longer afraid of the obstacles they face, someone who gives it their all, no matter the situation, and someone who I can be truly proud of. …show more content…
At this point in my life, I had already failed twice. I wouldn’t allow myself to fail again. I made a promise to myself that I would take full advantage of the next opportunity that I got, no matter how big or small. After I made that realization, I started to get serious about my life. I had to be ready for whatever life threw my way. At that moment, I knew that I had grown up. I understood that there was only one way to succeed in whatever I wanted to do: give your maximum effort every moment of every day. Though I had pushed myself farther than I thought I could before, I hadn’t kept this state of mind. Trying hard and pushing yourself as far as you can are very different. I know that now. Never Give Up I have faced much adversity in my life. The one time in my life where I feel I have faced the most adversity, was in basketball. Throughout my life I have loved playing basketball, but in ninth through eleventh grade in high school I started to hate it, because of all the adversity I faced. There were many factors that were tied up into all of this too. One factor was that I use to be so nervous playing, that it affected my game in a negative way.…

There were many times where I thought I was going to drop out, where I wanted to give up because the stress was too much. But I continued on, I continued despite the crippling depression I fell into in tenth grade, I continued despite the difficult and numerous assignments we were given. I did this so that I could prove not only to myself but my family, that circumstance doesn’t have to determine your future. I grew up poor, my mother was a single parent working a full-time job without a college degree while raising three children. As such, she wasn’t home very often, and when she was, things weren’t that great.…

When I first started university, I had to go to an advising session; while, I do not remember what it was about, The one thing that managed to grab my attention was when the advisor said “I can spot a freshman a mile away” when someone asked her how, she replied” just search for people who look lost and confused”. It struck a chord deep within me because I was really lost and confused, not only that but also anxious, friendless, and afraid of all the responsibilities and of the possibility of failing. While my family assured me that these obstacles are the key element in becoming more responsible, and overcoming them will allow me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I, on the other hand, felt like these obstacles were not character builders, but more like energy and time consumers that affected the academic performances and health of both my peers’ and myself. I strongly believe that fixing these problems should be one of the university’s priorities.…

Living in a country that struggles with race inequalities, I was never fully accepted by the Hispanic or black youths in my school because I’m biracial. Through my experience, my freshman and sophomore years as a musician were terrifying. On top of the shock of the new atmosphere at school, I had to play my instrument with and in front of others, which was quite a stretch for me at the time. I would always beat myself up about minute mistakes I had glorified during rehearsals, playing tests, and especially auditions. However, after I did not make an Illinois Allstate ensemble my junior year, my approach to these nerve-wracking situations completely changed. Instead of thinking failing negatively, those uncomfortable experiences actually made me improve as I had taken more auditions.…
