My fear of not being accepted into a 4 year university quickly changed when I received my first college acceptance from the University of North Florida in late October. Through the month of January, we boasted an outstanding 10-1 record, winning 10 games in a row. Our quotidian consisted of practice and film sessions daily. We played with such tenacity and heart, but we had a very laconic persona. We never bragged about winning or about our own personal records or stats. We rode our 10 game winning streak into districts and then finally the district championship. Our winning streak finally came to an end when we lost to Coconut Creek high school in the district championship. Even though we lost to Coconut Creek, another opportunity arose to play in regionals and then hopefully the state championship. We eventually lost to Suncoast high school out of West Palm Beach in the regional semifinals. With all of our arduous work coming to an end, however, these memories will last forever. My season didn’t end how I wanted it too, but I love the friendships and relationships I built.
These “dragons’ seemed almost impossible to overcome in the beginning of my senior year. Through all the adversity I faced, I realized anything is possible if you believe in yourself and through hard work. I overcame these dragons and they have shaped the person I am today.
