In 1998, Barbara Ehrenreich, an essayist with a Ph.D. in biology, was encouraged to go out and try hands on and investigating journalism. This then developed into the idea of Barbara going out and living the life of an unskilled worker, with the conversation having drifted to how those who make minimum wage live. Skeptical at first, Barbara accepted and decided upon three rules for herself to follow through the process. First, she would not use any previously acquired skills to secure a job. Second, she must take the highest paying job offers and give her best attempt at holding it.…

At the age of 21, having her first daughter, my mother did not have an education beyond the sixth grade. Three years later we were abandoned by my fleeing father to fend for ourselves in a small and rural community. Growing up on the small Caribbean island of St. Lucia, my mother struggled for many years to support her small family. Four years ago, we made our way to Florida, along with my younger sister, where we resided with friends. Although I graduated high school in St. Lucia, my mother did not have the finances to aid with my college expenses, thus she insisted that I again attend high school to provide her with ample time to obtain some form of income.…

As just an 18-year-old, it is next to impossible to know what you want to do with the rest of your life. I had always known I wanted to work in the fashion industry, but I wanted to go into the business side of it, while still being heavily involved in the exciting parts of the industry. I decided to take on a difficult quest and attend the University of Mississippi, majoring in Integrating Marketing Communications, and hoping to one-day intern in and later move to New York, New York. My quest is very similar to Corliss’ quest in The Search Engine as she plans to leave the Spokane Indian Reservation to pursue a college education in writing, which is unheard of in her culture and looked down upon in a way by her family. And while our quests…

This trip was through the summer camp I have attended for now eleven years; Liberty Lake Day Camp located in Columbus, New Jersey, is my second home. I grew up in this camp, and when I finally reached the age to become a L.I.T, a leader in training, I was eager to undergo the program with my friends I always attended camp with. This trip was a reward to all the hard work we do as L.I.Ts. Little did I know the annual L.I.T trip to the camping site would be life changing.…

As a child, I was fascinated by the bookmakers at the end of our road. I daydreamed about the magical work going on behind those darkened windows to bring great story books to us kids… My eventual enlightenment over what really went on behind the bookmaker’s window did little to dampen my fascination with the power of words. I studied Communications, at Goldsmiths, majored in journalism, landed a job as a current affairs reporter, and then decided that crime reporting wasn’t for me. I was more at home with inspirational stories about people who did positive things and with creating PR opportunities by finding the story behind the story.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…

Growing up I have always dreamed of starting my business and managing every detail in it, I started studying the most famous businesses and what the imperfections in these businesses are, just to make sure that in the future if I do start my business, I do not make these mistakes. Starting a small business can be easy, but I always think through on how I can make it big and successful. The reasons I wish to study business administration is that I believe that if I graduate with this degree, I can become qualified to work in many business fields such as finance, accounting, and other aspects of the "money business". Most of my family members are currently working on their businesses ( banks, boutiques, restaurants, etc...), this encourages…
