Science and religion are two different aspects of life. They both have their optimistic values and teachings, and I am stuck in the middle. There are so many extensive and adequate theories that lead me to question my own beliefs and theological virtues. Based on history and facts, it seems like the two have been in conflict ever since the very beginning. Religion is a matter of faith and science is all about rationality and finding proof, and at times one outweighs the other. Scientific truths are tentative, and what we believe is true today could be easily be proved false tomorrow by observations and experiments.
I have been apart of the Catholic church for as long as I remember, but this year I have really started to question the science behind the stories that we have all grown up hearing which have been around for ages. The perplexing idea of the whole world flooding and one man building a boat big enough for all the animals in the world, the story of Adam and Eve, and a man using a staff to part the Read Sea, have always been stories that were hard for me to grasp. Some things are beyond scientific evolution and cannot even begin to be explained, such as proof of God’s existence or how humans were brought about. Science can provide man with physical wholeness. Through gaining scientific evidence, mankind feels that they have gained more knowledge about the world around them. On the other hand, religion alone can fulfill spiritual needs, it is a social phenomenon as well as personal and individual one. Religion fulfills our spiritual needs by giving us internal reassurance that after death our spirits will carry on in the afterlife. Although religion is a private dimension of a person, we can still experience it through social engagements. There are gaps that science can not fill but religion
