College Admissions Essay: Overcoming Obstacles In My Life

Life was never meant to be easy. It constantly presents us with challenges, and forces us to adapt to the unpredictable curve balls it decides to throw every now and then. In addition, it can be said that how we choose to face these challenges, can show a reflection of our character. Whether it be rising to the occasion to overcome these life presented obstacles, working to avoid them, or sadly allowing them to overwhelm us, our actions can show a direct correlation to describing our character. Moreover, I have like everyone else faced many obstacles in my life, some big and some small. However I firmly believe that my Third shoulder surgery was by far my greatest challenge that I was presented with. During the beginning of my sophomore year, after an entire summer of working hard to be able to rightfully stand alongside my fellow teammates on the field, I found myself injured on the sideline after just two games. After all had ended, I went without delay to the doctor the next day, to find out my entire season had just had the finale curtains close around …show more content…
Furthermore, I could have easily decided to give up on supporting the team, instead of spending hours on the sideline I could have let my depression consume me, but I refused to allow that to happen. Henceforth, I spent all my available time on the sidelines, giving tips when I could and doing any job possible to support those that still had a season to look forward to. Not only did I find myself filling up water bottles very frequently, but I also began to have more fellow team mates join me amongst the sidelines, and even worse most of them were seniors who had just lost possibly, their last year of football. One, by one fewer and fewer began to show up to games in practices, and subsequently there depressions began to consume them, and cause them more and more
