I worked hard in high school unlike Paul Logan His essay “Zero” is about how he did not work hard in school and how that hurt him in college. Although there are some similarities between us, Unlike Logan, I got A’s and B’s in high school. I also paid attention in class and had a couple friends. I was also friendly with my teachers.…
"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…
I have heard this quote spoken at least once in some way by all of my coaches. This aphorism means that if you want to win/succeed at something, then you can never give up, you must give 100% all the time and, if you do give up then you will end up failing. One of the most memorable times that I have heard this quote was during the same soccer game in the previous example, during senior night. It was halftime and we were losing by a couple of goals at this point.…
When I first started university, I had to go to an advising session; while, I do not remember what it was about, The one thing that managed to grab my attention was when the advisor said “I can spot a freshman a mile away” when someone asked her how, she replied” just search for people who look lost and confused”. It struck a chord deep within me because I was really lost and confused, not only that but also anxious, friendless, and afraid of all the responsibilities and of the possibility of failing. While my family assured me that these obstacles are the key element in becoming more responsible, and overcoming them will allow me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I, on the other hand, felt like these obstacles were not character builders, but more like energy and time consumers that affected the academic performances and health of both my peers’ and myself. I strongly believe that fixing these problems should be one of the university’s priorities.…
“The general reason to failure to anything you put your mind to is giving up”. My eighth-grade English teacher was a person I could always go to for any advice pertaining school. Mrs. Barnes was her name, she always told me to never give after failure because you will continue fail. To enumerate, I was kind of was called and was a nerd in class only because I knew just about every answer to her questions.…
The situations set before us aren't there to destroy; they are there to test us, and make us stronger than we ever thought imaginable. Growing up I had to remind myself of this, and now as I'm getting ready to start college I realized just how true it really is. If a problem seems to be unsolvable, try a different approach, never give up. If all else fails, start over, the next go around you'll have a stronger foundation. As long as you remember to never give up on your dreams, you can shoot above and beyond anything imaginable.…
Grade anxiety causes students to be more nervous and feel uneasy on or during their test or exams, it may be uncomfortable to the students but this is how they really feel. According to Stern (2013), “Having an anxiety to perform academically may lead to excessive anxiety, eating disorders or worry behaviors such as lying, cheating and burnout”. He concluded that anxiety has a negative impact on students. On the other hand, having anxiety is also important because it can have a positive effect in the student’s performance that can lead to higher grades. It is important not to have too much discomfort because too much worry may lead to depression.…
I believed that if I work hard and stay strong I will make it. I have made through two years of my high school and I am very close to finishing. Every day when I am feeling upset about a grade I read the quote and the next day I wake up fresh and…
and I hope to make the school baseball team in 2016. If I give up now, I will never make the baseball team. If I try again at least I have a chance. I think it is important for young adults to remember this quote as they get older because of three reasons. First, the quote speaks for itself.…
I developed fears of talking in front of my other classmates for projects and would never raise my hand scared that because I had a learning disability I was stupid and didn't have the correct answer. Through this, I also developed anxiety that made school even worse. However, I have always been the type of person that when I am faced with a challenge I fight to overcome it. I started reading every second I got and started paying, even more, attention to my studies. Let me tell you, it was really hard I was a fourth…
Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been a highly motivated individual. Striving for perfection has never been a foreign concept to me. Unfortunately, being a perfectionist has created some issues within my academic career. With time being a restraint on multiple tests, I have left a plentiful amount of answers blank trying to make sure every detail is correct. Despite this, I have still maintained high A’s in every one of my classes.…
College Success Skills #2 At the beginning of this semester, my main goal was to work on my habit of procrastination. I wanted to manage my time better with the use of a planner and make myself sit down and do my homework or study ahead of time so that I wouldn’t be as stressed out and could have time to have fun with friends without worrying about an assignment or test. At first I was doing an okay job, but soon I found myself falling back into my old habits.…
I’ve always imagined myself applying and attending college ever since the first time I was told about it . College was a dream of mine that I saw as the first step to my success in the future, but I knew little about all the hard work and steps you would need to take before you even stepped on a college campus itself as student before the success came. When I entered high school as a freshman I was overwhelmed with the amount of work that i would have to do to more on to the next grade in my high school career. I finished my freshman year with the not the greatest grades I knew I was capable of doing. I focused more on my high school sports than school itself.…
During the first year of college, there are lots of changes happening. The amount of freedom one gets in such a short amount of time can be a gateway to adulthood or failure if used the wrong way. There are multifarious ways a student can fall off track and lose the pathway to success. College can be the best time of someones life but that does not mean that it should be taken as a joke. Ultimately, you go to college for an education and should strive for success.…
My dad has this motto “Never Give Up” and I've always thought that mottoes are just something people say to make themselves sound cool and smart, until I had my own experience that taught me I should “Never Give Up” on things. I loved baking since I was young, so when I turned ten, my mother bought me a professional oven. I was extremely happy so I decided to bake a cake, which is something I've never tried before. I went to buy the ingredients with my mother at the supermarket.…
