College Admissions Essay: My Ultimate Educational Goals

I can recall my recent summer when I challenged myself to do tremendous work. Looking back to my previous summers, the mundane experience encouraged me to take drivers education for my license next year, test out of Algebra 2 and P.E., work on my AP History and Advanced English homework, practiced my viola for Symphonic Orchestra, read books during the night, and study for the S.A.T. (which was indeed, way too early for me). I was prompted to act because I recently found my ambitions for my future. My ultimate educational goal is to become some sort of engineer (undecided, but it’s related to this field), have the highest GPA possible, and obtain acceptance into University of Michigan. These ambitions didn’t hit me at the speed of light, but naturally throughout my ninth grade as I transition to a broader level of education. These experiences and mixed emotions are molding me into my greater. So in an odd way I appreciate feeling like crap and still having to wake up for work and school, it’s kind of like a “thank me later” concept. From the outside it looks like I over work myself for a 20 year old, but people just don’t understand how determined I am to be better than good enough. Being set apart is about the journey along with the end success. I have set myself apart as a student at Texas Tech due to my leadership, ability to make outside commitments while supporting my course load, and my hard work and ability to overcome adversity. For the duration of high school, I was a leader for my younger peers by volunteering over 400 hours with Shallowater’s Middle School One Act Play program. I held the position of High School Assistant Director for two years, and the opportunity to influence young students was extraordinary.…

As a child I can remember making lists of what I wanted to be or accomplish when I grew up. Then, the list probably consisted various items including becoming a pop star, owning 30 dogs and eating ice cream for breakfast. Now as a senior in High School, my list of goals has drastically changed and helped to guide me through the college process. Quickly, I realized that my goals parallel many of the Jesuit values that Georgetown University exemplifies. It was after two service trips to West Virginia, tutoring underprivileged children once a week, and being part of my school’s Community Service Corp’s that I realized just how integral a part of service is to who I am.…

I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. Before I even understood the concept of degrees, I would tell my parents “I want to go to college for seven years!” because I thought we could just choose how long we could go to college for. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…
