Over the years I have gained a true passion for sports. It is something I do everyday. Without sports I am in a nonstop cycle of boredom. Now, I didn’t just magically pick up a baseball one day threw it around. I had to learn and practice consistently or I would not excel at any sport. To learn I needed a coach. This coach is someone very special to me, my dad. There is so much praise for how my dad has taught me all about sports. Ever since I was born, he wanted me to be an athlete. This is similar to Two Kinds where the mother wants her daughter to become a genius, but I prefer to play sports over the majority of activities in the world.

My dad was so excited when we won the game in the tenth inning of a six inning game he started running towards the team. All of sudden he fell with no ability to stand up. Participating in Panther Athletics has had a tremendous role in making me into the person I am today. I have participated in volleyball, diving, and gymnastics over the course of my high school career. Participating in volleyball taught me so much about myself. It showed me how desperately I desire to succeed. After five years of participating in volleyball, I still had no idea what success looked like for me in that sport, so senior year I joined the diving team instead. Diving is terrifying. This sport challenged me immensely. Looking at the water, knowing that in five seconds I will be flying through the air and suddenly hear the loud smack of my skin hitting the surface and later cringing at the bruises the water left me with. As a child, I was raised amongst an athletic family where sports were always a priority within our household. From a young age, I was trained to play at the highest level and to be competitive in everything I engaged in. Although, when I was younger I participated in many sports, I had a strong passion for baseball. A passion for baseball that took me to the next level over and over again, until the next move was university baseball down south. The pressure to perform greatly increased as weekends usually spent with family in London, turned into weekends spent in some new city of the northern states. Life in Ontario during the summer quickly changed into living in an unfamiliar city each weekend; almost like packing up and moving schools as…

Never in a million years would I have dreamed of making varsity as a freshman, especially for a team that had just won back-to-back state championships. Throughout middle school, I had to overcome adversity associated with being a “science nerd.” When people started to discover my academic aptitude, I was labeled a “nerd” who couldn’t be athletic. I wasn’t about to let this stereotype define me, so I strove to invalidate it. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team” throughout junior high. Regardless, I began to work diligently and spent additional time perfecting my skills. My sister and I went to local gyms and practiced for hours with just the two of us. When all of the other players were having fun, I was focusing hard and absorbing as much information as I could from my coaches. My coach saw the desire and dedication in me that I didn’t even know was visible and he took a chance and put me on his team. I was overjoyed to know that my hard work had finally merited a reward, but little did I know that my rocky journey…

Sports have became one of my greatest passions since I was at a very young age, and now, I am completely addicted to it. See the thing is, I would always give my time up for it because I just had so much fun doing it. It was something that benefitted me in many different ways, both physically, mentally, and academically. It forced me to keep my grades high enough in order to participate in the games. I started to notice that it eventually consumed a whole lot of my time once I started playing sports in high school because it was a lot more serious than the middle school sports I was involved in. Even when the season wasn’t going on, I still found myself training and finding ways to better myself as an overall player for that specific sport and whatever season was up next. I found myself revolving my entire days around sports and academics; dedicating my mornings, nights, and weekends around the love of the game. As I became more dedicated and…
