College Admissions Essay: My Role As A Role Model

Improved Essays
For the past six summers, I have volunteered at my Church’s vacation bible school. This is where children can go to broaden their faith in an entertaining and creative way. Every time I go to help, it is a new experience. One year that I helped out was extremely memorable. I was the main leader of a second grade group with all girls. There was one girl that stood out; she was so energetic and crazy- I knew that she would be a handful. As the week progressed, we each got closer with one another. One day, the enthusiastic little girl left me speechless. We were outside playing games, and she picked a yellow dandelion out of the grass and handed it to me. Then she said, “Thank you for being my leader this year,” while hugging me so hard it took my breath away. It was a little act but it made such a huge impact on me. It made me realize how I inspire these kids and how I am a role model for them. It showed me how big of an influence I have on the children I help teach and how they look up to me. That hug and those words left me with an amazing feeling inside that I will never forget. It made me see how I am a leader to those around me. …show more content…
It is so hard to see each one of them struggle in their own ways. If I received a tuition scholarship, it would ease the weight immensely. A scholarship would be a blessing. It would help me continue to broaden my faith at McAuley High School, and take the final steps to becoming a woman. The scholarship would help me give back to my family for being able to provide a Catholic education for me, and show how grateful I am for that. It would make my dreams of going to McAuley for all four years a reality. I have decided that for college I want to pursue a career in the forensics field, and receiving this scholarship would make me one step closer to my goal. This generous scholarship would make a vast difference in my life, and would allow me to follow my

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

Receiving this scholarship would help me in more ways than one. This scholarship would help my family and I pay for the expenses of my books and my tuition, this way I would not be stressed during my studies of how I will be able to pay for all of my schooling. Any form of money that I can receive will be significantly beneficial. Being a recipient I would use this money to put towards my degree in Occupational Therapy, where I will be helping kids with disabilities learn the basic day to day living skills. After graduation, I will be attending East Central College to get my general courses out of the way, while taking classes that will help me in my future career.…

With the help of the teachers, and the other volunteers that were working with me, I learned how to be open to others and their opinions in small groups, and how to interact with kid that had serious problems in their life or had not accepted Christ as their personal Savior. By the end of the week, 126 kids gave their lives to Christ. In my group, I helped 5 of those kids know Jesus. I honestly can say that from this experience I feel that I have touched at least one of the kids I supervise. From getting personal with the kids in the small groups to just playing games or walking with them, I have truly connected and made a relationship with them.…

While college is a vital part of my future plans of earning a bachelor’s degree in both finance and risk management, it is also extremely expensive! God has blessed me with amazing parents. My Dad is self-employed and a 33 year member of the Arkansas National Guard while my Mom is a special education teacher. They have always planned to help with the financial burden of college as long as I earn good grades, maintain any scholarships that I may receive and keep a part time job, but I need scholarships to assist with their effort. My family may be “rich” in love, but not especially rich in “finances”.…
