College Admissions Essay: My Pursuit Of Dream

Decent Essays
Pursuit of Dream
There were dreams and there were plans
I leave home to fulfill those demands
Freed the motorbike, handed keys to my dad
Leave all my friends and leave all my youth

Fly over seas and oceans
Thousands of miles away from home
Only the chirping of birds sounds familiar
Everything else I have to start over again

Now have steering for both of my hands
All the bills are on my name
Friends, Families, relatives and my wife
I talk to them while on the drive

I sleep and they wake up
Alarm on my phone acts like my mother
And I just realized
Going back to home is my only dream

An unusually fragile underclassman: devoid of faith and fearful of a new environment brimming with the cold embrace of the unknown. “What do you like about yourself?” Sitting in the audience, listening to an assembly during my freshman orientation of high school, this existential question hit me like a tidal wave—initially destructive yet ultimately metamorphic. Those around me blessed with a wealth of confidence from a young age beamed with vanity: athletes, scholars, musicians and those exceptionally precocious few with the ability to thrive in multiple environments.…

As a child I can remember making lists of what I wanted to be or accomplish when I grew up. Then, the list probably consisted various items including becoming a pop star, owning 30 dogs and eating ice cream for breakfast. Now as a senior in High School, my list of goals has drastically changed and helped to guide me through the college process. Quickly, I realized that my goals parallel many of the Jesuit values that Georgetown University exemplifies. It was after two service trips to West Virginia, tutoring underprivileged children once a week, and being part of my school’s Community Service Corp’s that I realized just how integral a part of service is to who I am.…

I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. Before I even understood the concept of degrees, I would tell my parents “I want to go to college for seven years!” because I thought we could just choose how long we could go to college for. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…

People think I’m quirky. It’s not that I possess any eccentric talents, a unique sense of humor, or idiosyncratic mannerisms, but instead my quirkiness is a carefree, vivacious, grab life by the lapelles kind of attitude. This approach to life encourages confidence in being outside the box, daring to be different, and doing so unapologetically. Although I embody this today, this trait manifested in response to rejection and self-discovery. Growing up, I was a shy follower, conforming to the norms of my peer group.…

Growing up, I frequently heard variations of the phrase, “If you like what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” When I was younger, I never fully understood what this meant. However, as a young adult, I am realizing that the small sacrifices I make now will allow me to fulfill my future ambitions. I’ve always been hardworking and restless, both in school and in my extracurricular activities.…

“Strive for excellence!”, “Keep pushing yourself to the best of your ability.” , and “Have heart.” These are just a few of the many words of encouragement my dad would tell me as I grew up. At the time, I thought he was only referring to the sports I was playing. Whether it was gymnastics, softball, basketball, or volleyball, he was always pushing me to be the best I could be.
