College Admissions Essay: My Passion Of Building Community

Decent Essays
This only begins to touch on my passion of supporting others because I work at making people know that they always have me. Whether this is offering my futon to a friend so that they can take a nap during their longest day of the week or taking a couple hours out of my day to check-up on freshman students that went to my high school- I care about people and their wellbeing. I also want to show people my passions by including them into various activities that I enjoy. This is all part of building community to where the shared experiences that my potential residents will experience will be more enriched because there is a passion behind it. A lot of this will be found in being aware with what is happening on campus and be willing to try something

Positive Influence on WCHS While attending WCHS I have tried to make a positive impact on not only my peers, but the facility as well, whether it's a simple good morning or a smile while walking down the hall. I have tried to obtain leadership roles in various extracurricular activities throughout my high school career to help make a bigger impact on kids life's. I love to lead and be apart of something that is positive, for example being apart of FFA has shown me how far a simple ten cans of food can do. Those around me blessed with a wealth of confidence from a young age beamed with vanity: athletes, scholars, musicians and those exceptionally precocious few with the ability to thrive in multiple environments.…

I have been volunteering at my local library ever since my high school career has begun. Over the summer, I motivate little kids to read: I convince them to comprehend the various stories read, and in return they are rewarded with various prizes. During the weekends, I assist children with the material they may be struggling with in school. Every now and then, a few kids would bring in their homework, while others brought in either textbooks or their notes.…

On first thought, the word “volunteer” itself brings about connotations of selflessness, of community service, and of outward devotion. In no way are these translations incorrect, yet they only scratch the surface of what it truly means to be a volunteer--both in wholehearted spirit and on the University of Tennessee campus. Don’t get me wrong; dedicating one’s self to community service is great and all, and I know that the time I’ve spent doing so has been instrumental in my awareness of privilege and human compassion. In fact, I believe that the knowledge gained in actual volunteer work is a hefty piece of the puzzle that comprises the Volunteer spirit. Without a proper understanding of the roles we play in the lives of others around us, we might as well be walking robots, all steely and apathetic and such.…

I went to an event called UCONN Voice in the Student Union last Monday night and it was an enjoyable experience. I expected that I would enjoy the talents of other undergraduate students and my predictions proved to be true! It is music and other aspects of culture that bring the University community together. Therefore, the purpose of this event is to showcase the myriad of talented students who choose to express themselves and propagate positive emotions for the collective good. I’ve always been willing to take a leadership role and volunteer, although often outside of the Gull Lake school district 's boundaries. My freshman and sophomore years I was captain of a club swim team located in Plainwell, a team that I had competed within since the beginning of middle school. I took pride in taking the younger, newer athletes under my wing, helping them grow a love for an intense and all consuming sport mentally and physically. Prior to freshman year I volunteered at a restaurant and campground in Marshall because I felt like I needed something productive to do in my spare time over summer break.…
