College Admissions Essay: My Passion For Chemistry

Improved Essays
My passion for Chemistry started in year 7, the teacher I had for science made the subject interesting and fun, so I looked forward to every science lesson I had. The areas of chemistry that interest me are inorganic and organic chemistry as you can learn a lot about how and why different substances react in different situations. I also enjoy physical chemistry, because it allows you to apply chemistry to life situations.

In addition, the skills I have learnt from chemistry are varied. Chemistry has allowed me to develop a number of skills, like teamwork, organisational and logical thinking. With chemistry, I would like to go into forensic science, so I can apply chemistry to different types of law, such as criminal or civil.

Furthermore, I have learnt more skills from my other subjects, history and IT. The areas of the history that

My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…

There are thousands of jobs that involve chemistry, and some people do not even know it. From something as blatantly obvious as a chemist itself to something in the agricultural field such as an agronomist. It may seem like the two may not have any correlation to each other at all, but both of the careers involve chemistry. Many people see forensic science technicians as some really cool crime scene investigators, but there is so much more to it. Forensic science technicians are crime scene investigators, but they also work in laboratories to analyze any evidence that they have collected at the scene of the crime.…

It is important to develop skills that will not only improve your life but also your college life experience. Upon looking at the General Education Competencies that appears on the class syllabus, I decided on which skills are most important to develop in my humble opinion. One skill for example, that I find particularly essential is the ability to research and examine information, resources, and evidence that are both for academic use and those that are not necessarily for academic use. My reasoning is that, being able to have evidential support to what you are stating is critical since what you say typically follows you for the rest of your life.…

One thing that can be useful is knowing basic chemicals and elements to be safe and know what is inside things you have in everyday life. Knowing chemicals is good to know not to mix certain things that can possibly be dangerous or hazardous to your-self or others. Knowing not to mix ammonia and bleach is good because when mixed causes an toxic gas that can harm you, others, pets or possibly your belongings. Knowing simple elements like carbon which is key to all life and matter in organic and in-organic life.…

Chemistry As Carl Sagan once said, “Chlorine is a deadly poison gas employed on European battlefields in World War I. Sodium is a corrosive metal which burns upon contact with water. Together, they make a placid and non-poisonous substance, table salt. Why each of these substances has the properties it does is a subject called chemistry.” Chemistry involves many things, from atoms to elements and their functions.…

Having the time of refuge on a basketball court brings chills down my spine and tingling in my fingers, eager awaiting the next time I have a basketball in my hands. Playing basketball relieves the mind when shooting around, dribbling the ball constantly, and dedicating time to the sport. Shooting around relieved the stress I was feeling, I would walk into the gym with my headphones in my ear, blasting insane pump up music to get me in the mood to start my hooping session and bumping my music, nodding my head to the beat. I could smell the freshly waxed wooden floors and the light fixtures up above shining bright illuminate light down on me as if I was in the spotlight in a grand theatre.…

As a student of the ESW 99 writer’s workshop I have managed to improve both my writing and reading skills by having the opportunity to participate in this online class. The class ESW 99 has contributed to my expectations on college in terms of seeing the importance of speaking English, knowing how to write better essays, and determining my future in majoring in computer engineering. Majoring in chemical engineering will provide me with a vast field of oysters from which I can pluck a pearl or two containing the specialties I enjoy. I want to find pearls that align with my research interests and moral beliefs. In particular, nanotechnology fascinates me, since it is revolutionizing everything from medicine to computer science. For instance, in 2013, Jack Andraka used carbon nanotubes in his inexpensive diagnostic test for pancreatic cancer, and in 2009, a team at Yale University created the world’s first solid-state quantum processor. Additionally, I visited Georgia Tech’s highly advanced clean room used to experiment with nano-sized particles during my meeting with Dr. Joseph Paul at the Institute of Electronics and Nanotechnology.…
