After graduating high school, I did not limit myself by choosing one career path, I was most concerned with a path that offered continual education. Being most intrigued by life sciences in high school, I chose to do a degree in Biochemistry. As I completed a couple elective courses in psychology, my interest grew in that as well. From hard work and dedication being highly praised and rewarded by my family along with perseverance and discipline learned from 14 years in competitive swimming, I could not give up on biochemistry. This taught me more than I expected and I was captivated. It strengthened my belief in the importance of everyday learning and showed me how much a subject could change on a daily basis. What we were learning in the classroom was already becoming outdated – new discoveries were being made. This is why I’m enthusiastic about medicine; in order to provide optimal health care I would need to keep on top of new discoveries. I decided to take research to the next level and complete my own project in spatial learning for my honours in neuroscience.
