In not wanting to have my father’s life, my goal is to attain an education level and professional career that will be higher than that which my father reached. Which will leave a higher mark for my daughter to surpass, and I am working hard to be able to achieve this. My father’s struggles fuel my drive, as I know wanted me to do better in academics, career, and life in general.
Never having seen my father as an ambitious man, although I know he did have aspirations, I would not say he was self-starter. He attempted university studies in El Salvador, but was not successful and instead immigrated to the United States in the late 70’s. He never had a professional career, just jobs he worked for long stints, but eventually they would close or they would have layoffs. I know he was frustrated with the lack of stability in his work. I am working towards being able to sit for CPA exam upon graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting. I have worked hard on keeping my core GPA at 4.0 and my overall CSULA GPA of 3.98 since transferring in the spring of 2015. I’ve raised my overall cumulative GPA to 2.77, up from 2.33. My goal is also to finish with my cumulative being above 3.0 by the time I complete my coursework, which will hopefully open more opportunities in the job market. It has been a struggle to overcome my doubts of finishing strong and having a career, but my story will have a happy ending. I feel my drive and work ethic will land me in a great position and after successfully completing the CPA exam, I will be in a great place where I can be proud of accomplishing the mission I set for myself. Ensuring a great future for my family and setting a higher goal for my daughter, which she will one day proudly

Gently swaying back and forth in an ancient wooden rocker I listen to the rusty hum of the tired oak thumping the blues. Reminiscing, I recall Granddaddy a towering man with wavy, red hair, freckled fair-skin, and easygoing blue eyes. Consequently, I notice a timeworn black and white photo sitting on a shelf with an image of a smiling, confident child and I consider Granddaddy’s impact on my life. In the picture, a pintsize straw hat sits on top of my curls.…

As a teenager, I find it interesting to think back to being a little kid who could not wait to grow up. When I was younger, I idolized teenagers- I think every elementary age child places teens on a pedestal. I always thought teenagers were so cool and could do anything they wanted. Obviously, I soon learned none of those beliefs hold any truth in reality.…

Throughout the seventeen years of my life, I have just gone with the flow. I lived a passionless existence, never really having a desire for anything. I was, honestly, a little jealous of the people who knew exactly what they wanted to do with their future. I felt embarrassed that I seemed to be the only one who, in high school, still did not know what to do with themselves. Good grades came easily to me and I felt I had all the choices in the world, but what?…

Over the years, I have learned that growing up in a family business atmosphere has carved me to who I am today. Growing up, every semester break or public holiday, I would always attend to work at my father's pizzeria to help out and learn about the business. I have learned that managing is all about coping with diversity and complexity. As I grew older, I was given a managerial role of being a supervisor at work.
