Whether it was at a restaurant or at a local grocery store, my family has faced racism and still do to this day. I vividly remember a time in sixth grade when my friend suddenly stretched his eyes apart at me. The other kids laughed, but I didn’t know what was so funny when I realized that he was imitating my facial features. That was my first experience with racism and I pray with all my heart that such an experience will never come upon my children or the next generation of Asians who will live in America. However, I do realize that as long as people are not the same, discrimination will invariably be prominent especially in diversified countries like America. Although racism will be a problem that will exist forever, some minority groups such as the gay marriage group have made substantial progress and I believe that Asian and other minority groups should follow them as a precedent. With a majority of the 50 states of America consenting to give out licenses for gay marriages, America is showing a glimpse of its American Dream of equality. My dream is that one day, all people will be judged on their character and on their actions rather than their skin color or
