College Admissions Essay: My Competitive Cheerleading Team

Many times in our lives we have the choice to be a leader or a follower. One of the many times that I have chosen a leadership role is when I was on my competitive cheerleading team. During one of our first competitions half of the team forgot our routine and the stunts all fell. While everyone stood there in silence I started saying the words and going through the stunts and routine and everyone followed my lead and we pushed through the embarrassment. I decided to take this leadership role because I knew that everyone was too afraid to be the only one to say the words in fear that no one else would say them too, so I knew that if I put my dignity aside for a moment our team still had a chance to shine and get a good score on our round. Another time that I have taken a leadership role is when our sideline cheer team had a booth at the Water Festival. I took the morning shift and when I got there I had all of the materials but only me and my coach had shown up and she still had to head back to the school to get the things we were selling. So while she went and got the stuff I stayed at the booth and lead it by myself until my teammates came and helped. I decided to be a leader in this situation because I knew that it was what I had to do to help my coach out so that she could get her stuff done. I believe that by leading the booth for a few hours I helped my coach accomplish what she had to do for the day and helped my team by sitting at the booth fundraising to help pay for some of our debts. This relates to my capacity to be a leader because I took the responsibility of holding the booth by myself. Lastly, I took a leadership role when I coached rocket football cheerleading. I was a huge role model to all the little girls I coached, and I took a lot of responsibility by taking them all into my hands for a couple hours a few days every
