College Admissions Essay: My Application As A Student

How will colleges look at me compared to others that are applying? I hope that they will be interested in who I am and what I can bring to their campus community, and not as much on how I scored on the ACT's tests. I hope they will look at my high school achievements, all the activities both in and out of school that I have done, my volunteer work, my time on the playing field and how I have progressed academically over four years. I believe that when you look at me as a freshman three years ago and now as a senior, you will see that I have continued to push myself in my studies. Each year I have challenged myself academically by taking honors and AP classes, becoming more involved with important school clubs, and pushing myself on the playing field. …show more content…
I could have applied to schools that have since waived tests scores but I’m not for many reasons. I’m applying to schools that I know can offer me a wonderful education in my major, prepare me for a successful career, and that I can become fully immersed in the overall college experience. I believe that looking at a student holistically shows what they are all about and what they are capable of achieving both in and out of the classroom. When I started this whole process, I put together a list of all the things I had done in and out of school, and determined what was most important to showcase myself as a college applicant. One of the things I learned from my High School principal as I sat with him to discuss my future, is that he sees me as a leader on the field hockey field. He said that although I wasn't a captain, he knew that I was the type of student that has the personality and drive to be a mentor and support to the

I tried to tackle the college application process as honestly as I could. I knew I was not the smartest or the most talented applicant in a sea filled with thousands of application, but I knew I was unique. There was and still is only 1 me, Brian Bristol, on the entire planet. I used this knowledge to my advantage and did my best to convey my story to each college I applied to. Being transparent throughout the application process is underappreciated among high school students, and the fact that I was able to express myself was looked upon favorably by many colleges.…

Each college student knows what it is like to constantly worry whether or not the score on the ACT is high enough to get accepted into a school or if certain AP credits will transfer to the school of choice. It’s my junior year of high school, and I had just begun looking at colleges and universities I believed would suit me personally and educationally. Each school was severely critiqued on certain elements they had to offer, such as, majors/minors, clubs and organizations, pre-professional programs, and even extracurricular activities. This was going to be the place I would ultimately spend the next four years of my life, so I needed to make the perfect decision.…

At the end of high school my GPA was a 3.6 and although my SAT scores were in the 2300s, I feel like what really got me into all the schools I wanted to was my personal statement. I wrote about life as a hispanic and how hard it is to be discriminated in everything you do, and also about some tragic events in my life. I saw better qualified students get rejected as all my acceptance letters came in the mail. Seeing better qualified people not make it into Berkley made me feel like I did not deserve the opportunity given to me.…

Colleges are not only looking for good grades and test scores for accepting students. Students with a more rounded background tend to be accepted at a much greater rate than those who have had limited access to experience. Being well rounded in school will not only help you in college, it will help you in the workforce. A teacher of mine has made this clear to a lot of his students. A big reason why he got hired to teach for this school was not because he only had a scholarship, it was because he had experience in theatre.…

So I have used a few different programs and some were outside of high school. Over the summer of my junior and senior year, I did a SAT Prep Program called SWAG (Students With Academic Goals) and this helped bring my SAT score up and I learned more about college like the application process, tuition, housing, etc. I also did a different SAT program with Cal-Soap in the summer of my junior year which helped a lot as well. I believe my grades in high school reflect my academic ability because I work hard for those grades.…

The main theme of the article was to try and convince doubtful people that no matter what condition one is currently dealing with, college is always a possibility. The article explains 10 different scenarios, which each contain an argument for college attendance. Excuse 1 - The first paragraph argues that some students believe that since their family has never gone to college before, that they might be breaking some family tradition. The author then argues that “not going to college is the kind of family ‘tradition’ you should break” (2). We agree with the author’s point, but we also feel that the excuse itself is actually an extremely rare one.…
