College Admissions Essay: My Ambition To Boston

Improved Essays
The summer after my sophomore year, my church youth group flew to Boston for our annual mission trip. I had never been to Boston, let alone the east coast, so this trip extraordinarily unique. To this day, I vividly remember boarding at the Wallaston Station each morning of that week hearing the phenomenal accent that all true Bostonians possess.. To spend my next four years at BU would put me back in that same city that holds such fond memories of mine, from cheering on the Sox at Fenway Park, to making fresh PB&Js for the homeless at Boston Common. This city exposed me to culture I had never witnessed before, and at BU I can expect much more. In the classroom, Boston will challenge me intellectually, through its world-class professors, to opportunities in undergraduate research such as the senior design project.

Because my mind was already so set on this plan, it felt as though my options at this event were fairly limited. I saw no point in visiting the booths belonging to schools that were not on my “to-do list”. However, boredom and curiosity drew me to consider possibilities I had previously neglected—and now, though I have become more uncertain of what exactly will be the plot for the next decade or so, I can safely say that the future looks much brighter than it had before. In keeping with the decisions I had already made, I immediately looked for LSU’s and Northshore’s…

I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. Before I even understood the concept of degrees, I would tell my parents “I want to go to college for seven years!” because I thought we could just choose how long we could go to college for. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…

Boston University prides itself as not only an intellectual community, but also an energizing . Located along the side of the Charles River, my visit to BU helped me imagine myself walking on campus and attending classes. With over 2,000 research laboratories, BU provides an endless amount of opportunities to engage with professors and students on innovative STEM research. After learning more about the chances to have constructive dialogue with professors outside of the lecture halls and seminar rooms, I was immediately reminded of the intellectual environment I value at my current high school. One of the most important educational experiences I have had so far is the engagement of my teachers on my educational and non-academic careers.…

Moving away from your family is hard, and most people could come to understand that, but I feel that moving away from my family is more difficult than average. I started my abroad education at Colorado State University, after of a semester there I got accepted into UC Davis (my dream University). This quarter for me at Davis has allowed me to come about with much needed personal growth, and I feel that I have matured even more, on my own. Starting all over, in a new environment, dealing with new kinds of people, and adjusting to a new educational system…

When I was younger, I wanted to go to Harvard University. Being 10 years old, I wasn’t intrigued by the school’s reputation for offering accessible connections and substantial learning experiences for those admitted – I was drawn in by the way pop culture portrayed the students of this school: ambitious, determined, and driven to succeed. Since then I’ve definitely realized this is not the best option for me - but at the time; seeing zealous female roles such as Rory Gilmore and Elle Woods pursue this path made me believe that traveling to Boston was the best first step to take in order to showcase my intellect and become the best version of myself.…

It is interesting and humbling to attend a school that is so full of diversity and difference. It makes me question – how did we all end up here? All fifty states and probably fifty different countries too are represented among this campus, and it just makes me wonder. Opportunity is something many humans take for granted over the course of their lives. We live each day working hard in hopes that someday the gates will open wide in front of us, leading the way down the path to a prosperous life; and for some this very well may be their destiny, but if I've learned one thing over the course of my twelve years of schooling, it's that opportunities come and go like leaves in the wind, and they are a commodity we all have the ability to fully take advantage of with the right mindset. As a senior, I've came to this realization much too late, but my will to succeed has not faltered, and although I can only do so much, the least I can do is make the effort to seize every opportunity and walk through those doors,…

My Dream Growing up, little kids always have someone they look up to, a role model. It can range anywhere from the super hero who came from krypton to save the world that you read about in a comic to the person whose there to catch you when you fall off your bike and scrap your knee. Mine happened to be and still is, someone I only saw once a day for forty-five minutes, my favorite class period of the day that I always looked forward to since for as long as I could remember. My choir teacher, Mrs. Arnold, made it the most life changing for me. Although I only had Mrs. Arnold for several years and for a short time period in the day she was able to show me the beauty of music, not only that but life lessons, for instance, not being afraid to be myself and how to be a great leader.…

Driving through the Western University gates on Richmond Street in the Fall of 2011 was my first glance into a place I would soon call my home; although, I did not know it at first. As an impressionable 17-year-old, I did not have a clue as to what I was looking for in a university. I felt a variety of emotions when touring Western during my last year of high school, including, but not limited to, excitement, insecurity, anxiety, and confusion. Such a large campus overwhelmed me; however, I felt as though I could feel at home here. As it turns out, my intuitions proved to be correct, as the past four years have provided me with ample opportunities and experiences that have encouraged me to continue my education, and future career goals here…

Most eighth graders are given the opportunity to travel to D.C. to embark on an endeavor to experience the foundation of our country.
