College Admissions Essay: If I See Myself In College

Decent Essays
I was 12 when I watched Step Up 3 for the first time. To most people, it would seem like a waste of time on a lackluster movie. To me, it was the moment I saw myself in college. A character navigated his life as an engineering student with a passion for dance, and he was backed by NYU. He obtained a double major in two things that wouldn’t make sense together to anyone else. I knew the instant I saw him that that was what I wanted for myself. I write when I feel like the world around me does not suffice. A Trump nomination, and now President-elect, went hand in hand with a poem about loving the way my mouth twists around Spanish words that he could never and would never understand. A story about love emerged from my mind a week after the

Only Time Will Tell Have you ever wondered where you’d be in life if it wasn’t for that special someone? Well, if it wasn’t for my younger brother Alex, I would more than likely be in a very dark place in my life. When my brother was only two years of age a school bus ran him over. The impact of the school bus running over a portion of his body almost killed him right in front of me. I was only six at the time, and I can’t help but think, if he didn’t make it through that accident on that horrible day, how my life would been completely different now, and not in a good way.…

Discuss an experience that sparked your interest in this field. I was a young freshman, wandering the halls of Cambridge High School attempting to find my classes without being late. During my freshman year, I was enrolled in a fascinating science class; biology. I became amazed at everything that I learned about and how every body system was so intricate in its functioning. I also loved how different levels of organization affect upper levels of the body system.…

Every writer has wondered why they practice their craft, including myself. School has always been where the majority of my writing endeavors have taken place. I often fear that if I were not graded on my assignments, if I was free to submit whatever quality of work I chose, that I would not be a good writer. The doubt in my mind tells me that I write only for getting good grades, but that is not true. While school is a factor, I write mainly because I enjoy it, and because it is a place where I can organize and extend my thinking.…

I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. Before I even understood the concept of degrees, I would tell my parents “I want to go to college for seven years!” because I thought we could just choose how long we could go to college for. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…

All of my short life I've seen a vivid dream. One where I sit with a ticket in my eager hand, staring out the window of an airplane a million miles in the sky thinking "what next"? With my hard earned Master's degree in psychology and the freedom to start anywhere I choose at hand the possibilities are endless and overwhelming. Even now, as I reminisce on the decisions I've made in my past that have gotten me where I am today. The thought of regretting the hardship I faced throughout high school and the wild ambitious years of my college days never crossed my mind.…

People always have trouble pinpointing where I was born. When I joined my new Macedonian elementary school in the fourth grade, most of my class assumed I had been born in Turkey. I had, after all, just moved to Skopje at the age of nine, having spent majority of my childhood in Ankara. I remember how hard it was to explain to my peers why I had lived there. I doubt I even understood it myself.…

In my eyes, the environment that I came to be who I am was a lot different than everyone else who i grew up around. My dad owns a basketball company and because of this much of the things i do and participate in are affected by this. As I’ve grown older and because my dad is still developing his company, I have come to learn so much about responsibility. Growing up I have been expected to “ help out” with the company even though it is not always what I want to do. This is a constant struggle between me, my parents, doing what i want to do, doing what it is expected of me and going above and beyond, and not only that but having time to and motivation to do it all.…

My Educational Opportunities This topic has recommended that I write about how I have taken advantage of my educational opportunities, such as honors classes and so on. I would like to state that I am right now clearly taking advantage of my educational opportunities. I have free education and nobody is forcing me to go to school every day. I voluntarily wake up and come here to learn as much as I can learn in a day. I am strongly opinionated, and my opinion is that I am taking full advantage of everything in my educational reach.…

What is it that defines me? What are my views on the world around me? The answers to these questions, if asked prior to coming to college, would have been mediocre and uninteresting. I would have given answers like “I’m defined by my uniqueness, and my ability to observe others” and “I think that the world around me is in a difficult state”. However, even after the short amount of time being in this new environment, I am able to recognize that my perspectives on life and about life have changed drastically.…

During the age of fourteen, I’ve had important events that have made me who I am now, which also made me set up goals for myself. When I was a little girl, I knew that I had to do something good later in life after looking at how hard my parents worked for me to have a better future. As a freshman, I had a rough start of the year, but I managed to get back up and learn lessons out of my freshman year experience, creating the person I am now. As a middle schooler, I began to think of careers I’d want to follow, which made me find what I wanted to do. First I wanted to be a teacher…

People write for all sorts of reasons. They write to show their emotions in diaries; or regularly blog on a page they 've created saying after every one, from anonymous because they are scared to give out their own identities because of a troubling past. Also a common way of writing is poetry. My senior year English teacher Ms. Sutton told me something that actually made sense to me. Ms. Sutton said, “Poetry is the easiest way to your soul, and poetry can tell your life story just with a couple of words.”…
