College Admissions Essay: I Want To Go To School

“Sydney! Are you ready for kindergarten?” I slither out of my bed like an inchworm. I’m not sure if I have the courage to go to kindergarten. I want to stay in bed like a lazy couch potato. Slowly, I drag my slippery feet into Mom’s bedroom, dreading going to school on this very sizzling August day. I don't want to see Ms. Lotarski, my teacher. I think she’s going to be as vicious as a tyrant. However, Mom’s forcing me to go, because “I need a good education.” I don’t know what that is, but it sounds boring. Mom also tells me that I’m supposed to bring an apple to show appreciation towards Ms. Lotarski. In cartoons I’ve seen students bring apples to give to their teachers. We drive over to the market to buy an apple. Although we have apples at home, Mom insists they are bruised. I’m perfectly fine with the apples being bruised. Suddenly, before my eyes, I can see it. The most glorious, scarlet red apple I’ve seen in my life. …show more content…
She buys the apple, and we drive to school. The drive takes only fifteen minutes before school begins, but it feels like one million days. I think I’m going to be sick. I shouldn’t have wanted to go, I think inside of my head. My mom drops me off at the car rider line. I give her a hug and wave goodbye. When I enter the school, it’s almost full of students in the halls, especially fifth graders. Words ricochet off the doors. It’s so crowded, I can’t even see my classroom, Room 01. Finally, I can see my classroom. I nervously open the door, with my legs shaky, my apple about to fall out of my hand, and my nose filled with snot. I look around and see boxes of snacks and tissues, bottles of hand sanitiser, and juice

For many parents, the birth of a new child brings joy and glee. However for my father, I was a burden made by his late-night illegal activities. West Englewood is an area many people have not heard of - it’s tucked inside the southwest side of Chicago. During the day, the people of Englewood would wake up to the smell and sound of gunshots and burning tyres. Police officers would parade the streets in their well-ironed uniforms and the alleys would be covered with bright and colourful graffiti of sayings and images, which I didn’t understand at the time.…

It was the first day of the last week of the summer break, and I couldn’t wait for school to start; I missed my friends. As I sat down to eat my breakfast that morning, my mum surprised me when she said, “Hurry up with your breakfast, because I want you to catch the 9.45 bus into town to get the school uniform order from old Mr. Worthington’s store, and if you don’t dilly dally, you’ll be back before it starts raining cats and dogs again.” Leek is the closest town to our farm; about 6 miles away. It’s a Market Town, meaning that every Monday, which happened to be that day. Farmers from the surrounding area rose early to load their trailers with the livestock they hoped to sell, and as they headed out to the Leek Cattle Market grounds, where the auction took place, most prayed for a good price.…
