College Admissions Essay: I Want To Be A Teacher

When I was younger, I wanted to be a lot of things. I wanted to be a chef, an Olympian, and a teacher. I was also indecisive. The one thing I raved on the most about was being an Olympian. I wanted to be either an acrobat, after one of my favorite kid shows, or a gymnast, because they got to wear pretty leotards. As I got older, I rationalized why it wouldn’t be possible in my situation to be two of the three icons I aspired to be while I was younger. I could have easily been a teacher, yet I found my passion in a different course of study while in high school. I had once seen a show called the “Amazing Acrobats of Shanghai,” and came to the conclusion that what I wanted to be then, can still help me today. That show has inspired me to realize my dreams. I t has taught me that I needed to be a bit more flexible, that practice makes perfect and a little color doesn’t hurt every once in a while. …show more content…
I was rigid in my world views and often turned my nose up at anything I didn’t agree with, plus I was easily irritated. After seeing that show, I learned that I need to be a bit more flexible. I needed to be open to criticism, especially in my chosen major in college—architecture. I needed to be open to other ideas other than my own which would help me in further realizing my dreams. I just needed to be e better me. I also learned to grow and develop. As I learned to take constructive criticism as a positive, I then became a sponge. As kids growing up you were asked the same question over and over, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Kids reply princess, astronaut, dancer, teacher, etc. and occasionally you have that one who just says they want to do nothing, but play video games. Nevertheless, the answer is simply I do not know or I have not thought about it. Personally, growing up I wished to become a doctor, not just any doctor, a pediatrician.…

“If I were Shannon Miller this would not happen,” I often thought as I positioned my body onto the bar. I hated heights and even being a few feet in the air on the highest uneven bar unsettled me. It seemed as if I were on the peak of a mountain top and my oxygen supply was thinning out. Each exhale made me dizzier and before you know it, I would be climbing down in a hurry, anxious to see my score even though I knew it would be low. I hated the fear I felt about practicing on the bars and how I believed that I would end up like my older teammate Chanel, who recently had surgery on both of her knees due to an awful fall in the last competition.…

When I'm older I would like to become a pro athlete, although because that is very unlikely to happen I would become a lawyer or doctor because they make good money. Another job that probably would not happen is to be a NHL gm as I love making my own teams. If that doesn't work then I could work at the Dubuque Medline because they do so many fun things at the job. In conclusion I very much love sports as they are kind of my life, my favorite teams being hockey(Blackhawks), lacrosse(UNC), football(Packers and Hawkeyes) and baseball(Cubs).…

Going through different trial and error experiences only made me grow. Today, after going through different trials and learning from them I am almost comfortable with the person I have become. I don't think I could ever say that I have become the total woman I want to be because I still have a lot of growing and learning to do. Yet, throughout my entire life my drive for excellence and being an all around positive person has never changed.…

Most little girls dream of being a ballerina when they grow up, I was the little girl who dreamed of medical school. Anyone who was brave enough to ask got my vehement no when asked if I thought that the college, subsequent medical school, and training would be too much school or that I would get bored. I decided very early that to be a doctor was one of the most exciting things that a person could chose to be and my fantastic pediatrician was the initial spark for this love of medicine. The care that I could see him exhibit in his daily operations as well as the ease at which he interacted with patients and parents alike inspired me. His knowledge was fascinating and I longed to have that level of understanding of the human body.…

My entire life I have always wanted to do something where I would be remembered positively by many people. I recall always telling myself I was going to become a backup dancer for a famous singer, become a singer myself, or maybe an actress. Better yet, I thought I could have been all three. As I entered middle school, I realized those goals were too surreal to even become the slightest bit possible, mainly since I am located in an area that most people haven’t even heard of. Back then, I was very uncertain about any career goals I have had.…

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning”. (Brad Henry) Not every person can be a teacher; it takes a certain kind of individual to be a teacher. Some qualities that teachers consume are patient, kindness, passionate, knowledge, and heart, also there are other many formal qualities that a teacher must need to be successful. At twelve years old in seventh grade I had this teacher that inspired me to become a teacher and ever since then, becoming a teacher has been a priority.…
