Without her I honestly wouldn't care about school. She made me understand that school needed to be taken seriously because if I didn't, I was going to end up like my father which right now isn't such a good thing. She was actually the main reason why I signed for T STEM. I saw her going to college because she wanted to see her kids have a better life and I thank her everyday for this. Without her our family would have ended up in the streets a very long time ago. my mother also told me, “What if your kids suffered just because you didn't take school seriously?” The first thing I thought about was how my father made us suffer as kids. My mom taught me to take school seriously and never quit and always take school

I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. She instilled in me how important it is to take care of the people around you, so that when you are in need, they will take care of you. It’s cliche, I know, but the world truly did lose a great human being. After her passing, My Mimi, who is my father’s grandmother, took me in and supplied me everything I needed to succeed in life.…

It was March of 1998; a bitter, cold morning she spent lying in a hospital bed caressing me in her arms. From that moment on, my mother has and always will be my ample motivation. It’s not just an emotional attachment that is brought on naturally by the forces of motherhood, but it is a psychological binding between the two of us that is nearly impossible to explain. The emotional impact of someone knowing more about you than you know about yourself is virtually magical. She has taught me more about my inner-self and the mysteries of the world more than anyone else I have ever met.…

Throughout life, I have acquired different traits but the traits of which I am most proud of would be my reflective and inquisitive nature. I have always been observant and I continually question the origin and the reasons why various concepts and ideas were obtained and derived. History has proven that when great minds answered the question “Why?”, great advances happened in modern society/history that forever changed how everyone viewed the world . If Isaac Newton and Galileo were not inquisitive we would have never learned about the many theories and laws that exists in the modern era. This trait provides me with an innovative mindset because it reminds me everyday to think critically and to question “What could be?”…

As school started this year I had a newly found confidence because I wasn’t the underclassmen this year. It wasn’t nerve-wrecking which is how I felt on the first of school when I was a freshman, but more comforting knowing that I had experience from last year. In a society where celebrities are the star of the show and people care more about the number of likes they have on social media than showing the people they love how much they care about them, it is easy for anyone to forget the impact they have on our society. Every person was put on this planet for a reason bigger than we can imagine, but it is our job to put in the hard work and effort to make the most of ourselves. I constantly hear people making remarks like, ¨how am I going to make a difference, I´m just one person¨ or ¨I wouldn't make a difference,¨ but that is where they are wrong. If it weren't for each and every little drop of water that makes up our immense ocean, what would be left? Our planet would not be able to thrive without the water.…

Although I grew up with an American influence in my household, my family and Vietnamese culture has encouraged me to attain greater aspirations for myself and to become a better influence for a younger generation. Growing up with a very predominant Vietnamese influence within my household impacted every aspect of my daily life, from how I was raised as a child to how I see the world currently. Many things played a role in shaping me, for example my family and culture. I was raised by a single mom giving me a different outlook.
