College Admissions Essay: How I Encouraged My Life

Throughout my childhood, I was never encouraged by my family to go towards the college pathway and I would never question myself or them about it. I didn’t acknowledge the meaning of attending college or university or what they were. I wasn’t conscious of how life was after high school— I just knew that I had to get my high school diploma and then get a job at McDonald’s or Subway, because they’re common places to get hired at. I always had the feeling that I was going to end up like my siblings: high school dropouts with no education or being a pregnant Latina at a young age and settle down early with their possible spouses. Additionally, I had the feeling of ending up like my mother that raised all her children through welfare in California, and still is at this point. …show more content…
I did schools projects, homework, and reading by myself, no siblings or other family members helped me when I had a question or I didn’t comprehend the given assignment. I would have to wait the next day to ask the teacher a question. I couldn’t ask my peers because I’ve never been a social person that talks to everyone. (I’m more of a do-it-alone person, I like working independently, but I do enjoy helping my peers when they don’t understand something; I love helping others with whatever I can.)

When I entered high school, I never imagined being in college. During college awareness month during my freshman year, we would do college presentations; the details never interested me, maybe the tuition prices, but that’s about it. My mind was not set to go towards the college pathway. At some point, I wondered if not going to college was wrong, my classmates were most likely going. But my train of thought shifted instantly once I realized how amusing it is to take your passions to the next level and get a possible career in
