Figuring out your aspirations and setting priorities is all part of this ginormous world we live in where society plays a key factor in the decisions we make for ourselves. Obviously we all have dreams we want to pursue, it is just a matter of making them happen. Although I was involved in an abundance of extra-curriculars something was missing. I needed an activity that was beneficial to something other than my own personal gain. I knew that my life had to have a purpose but it is sometimes too soon to tell the path you are taking. After all, I was only 16. Despite my age, I was determined. I had been inspired by my, now, favorite quote from the philosopher William James, “Act as if what you do matters. It …show more content…

I was a little reluctant at first because of the name of this place but when I pulled up their website the first thing I saw were people riding horses! Automatically I became more intrigued thinking this could really be it, my chance to do something for someone else. Reading on I realized this was not just any old barn when I scrolled past the volunteer section. Volunteer for what? Little did I know, at the time, this would be the place where I would spend the next two years of my life and counting. It is called Pegasus; Pegasus Therapeutic Riding

While searching online for a new place to volunteer, I began looking into Pass it Along, a non-profit organization committed to helping teenagers become confident and compassionate through self-discovery, volunteering, and leadership. Through Pass it Along, I found an opportunity to volunteer with SCARC, the Sussex County Association for Retarded Citizens, and help people with developmental disabilities. Our road trip consisted of volunteering at Sparta Lanes with both Pass it Along and SCARC and helping and encouraging the participants to bowl in preparation for the Special…

Audrey Hepburn once said “As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.” I have been very fortunate to discover the incredible rewards of volunteering at a young age, and through engaging in the true gift of service I have committed myself to making a difference in my community through voluntarism. I have learned countless valuable skills through volunteering that I will continue to use for the rest of my life. One of the most amazing places to volunteer is the Little Light House. The Little Light House is tuition free Christian development center that provides educational and therapeutic services to children with special needs.…

I knew from a young age that I wanted to eventually have a career which positively impacted the individual. When I was six years old, I wanted to be a window washer so I could give people the joy of being able to look outside. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a speech-language pathologist in order to help people exercise their right to speak. I have always observed that I am not the type of person who functions well in an inactive environment. I learn best by doing, and I cannot sit still and watch someone else do it for me.…
