College Admissions Essay: How Animation Changed My Life

As a young girl, I was entranced by the stories that my sister read to me. These stories allowed me a form of relief and comfort, for when I was younger my family and I did not have much. We lacked clothes and money, being teased for our disadvantaged lifestyle. However, when my sister read to me, my mind sunk into an exhilarating, vivid place where stories bloomed, sending me into a world of boundless possibilities in face of our pressing hardships. These stories engaged my imagination through the characters I related with and the lessons they taught, offering me a treasured value that I would not be here without – hope.
When I would read or watch about characters who used qualities like determination, persistence, and compassion to achieve their goals, I was inspired to do the same. They gave me the hope that I

Though I didn’t realize it during those times, my true purpose in life would be to become an Animator. Animation combines both of my passions – drawing and writing – to tell stories of all kinds. My personal and professional goals are to use Animation to inspire positive change in the minds of others. The influence of storytelling can be felt through generations within the morals learned and lessons taught. However, in order to have an impact, I must have education. Because of my impoverished background, I’ve learned that only with knowledge can one make a genuine change in the world. My parents came to America with nothing but their education and dreams.
