Growing up is internationally known as one of the hardest periods in a person’s lifetime. Everything’s changing, the people you’ve known all your life are no longer acting like themselves, changing schools can be very difficult, and friends are lost. However, growing up is especially difficult when families relocate right after their child started high school. When my family moved from Midland, Texas to Houston, Texas, my entire world was flipped upside down and I thought I had lost a once in a lifetime opportunity..
My father was always talking about how much he wanted to live in Houston. His comments came so often that I was used to ignoring them and brushing them to the side. However, after I started my freshman year of high school, his comments began to change from simply wanting to live there to how we were prepared to

I was upset at losing that opportunity when we moved to Houston. I was also scared to start at a huge, two story high school when I had come from a high school that was only one hallway. When faced with the high school I would be going to, I broke down, and confessed to my mother how scared I was at the thought of having to go there. She was also upset that I would be losing my chance to gain college credits early on in a dual credit school. In response, we both started searching for any local dual-credit high schools like the one I had attended. My mother ended up stumbling across an ad for one in the local paper. It advertised a high school that would be starting its first year at the local community college. When we went to the meeting they were having the next week, we learned that it would be almost the exact same thing that my first high school was. We immediately submitted my application and hoped the school would gian enough students to be able to

Moving to Chicago in 2014 was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. It meant leaving my life in Puerto Rico and beginning a new one. At first I didn’t get why we had to move and I resented my dad. I figured he didn’t care about us and only wanted to move for his own convenience.…

Moving schools away from all of my friends should’ve been an appalling experience, surprisingly, it was a blessing in disguise. I went to Agnes Baptist Elementary from kindergarten to 5th grade and I had friends that I've known since I was 3. I loved it there and knew the school like the back of my hand. Everything was superior, like most good things, though there were times where they weren’t, I was harassed by a bully almost everyday, my grades were getting inadequate, and my mom didn’t want me to be a sad, disconsolate 7th grader at a new junior high. In the result, I moved and I went to Savage Middle School, a school that had 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

Growing up is a strange concept. The way our minds and our character grow come from the hardships and struggles that life sets in front of us. People handle situations differently. Hi Ms. Watson, I was born in Houston, TX in 2002. Before 2nd grade, I lived in a house in Memorial Park behind my cousin’s house. My best memory about that house was the gate that separated my house from my cousin’s house, which allowed me to visit them frequently. I moved to the Spring Branch area around second grade for better schools.…

Just one day until I left everything behind. Until I went to a place where I might never know if people accepted me for who who I was. One precious day, and we weren’t even leaving for a good reason. This was all for something that we could have avoided- something that we could have gone without. I was only 8 years old when we moved from one side of the country to the middle of it.…

The day I found out I was moving, my first reaction was relief, for up until that point, I had concluded that the reason my parents were so serious, was because I’d done something wrong. However, as soon as that thought disappeared, another one replaced it. Why were we moving to DC? We were content in the neighborhood that we lived in, or at least I was. Slowly, I began to realize that I did not like the idea of moving.…

During my nine years of elementary and middle school, I attended a small charter school with less than one hundred fifty students total K-8. I had most of the same classmates year after year, and the same outdoor school campus and teachers. With the exception of a few students who came and went, most of us were together through eighth grade. In those nine years, I made friends with these classmates and had a small school experience. We spent time playing in the creeks and using the many outdoor classrooms.…

Moving is never a easy experience especially if it’s in between your freshman and sophomore year. Leaving the place where I first learned how to speak English and play basketball was very scary and hard. To make matters worse I tend to act really silly and ridiculous when I’m sad or angry so nobody really thought that I wasn’t really looking forward to a whole new life in a completely different place; however, I knew that the place where we were living was not doing any good for my mom and my dad’s job was stressful to the point where it was causing him to have really high uncontrollable blood pressure and sugar. That’s why I just sucked it up and didn’t really tell anyone that I really was not looking forward to moving to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. After school ended in June we packed our bags and flew to the new town…

Moving is difficult; everything is new and everyone is a stranger. I had moved six times in the past five years, but none impacted my life as much as moving to Kentucky did. My parents, approximately one year, after my freshman year at high school, before coming to a conclusion, planned to move elsewhere; working two jobs, twelve hours a day, was miserable, and their incomes were fully spent on mortgage, electricity, medical and vehicle insurance, and vehicle maintenance; my mother was studying, striving to become a nurse, and my father working to pay for her education. Living in Virginia, for over five years, and working every single day in those five years was not how they wanted to live; mortgage, along with electricity, and vehicle maintenance…

From the outside, I resemble the kind of person who has had an easy go at life, strolling through, not having to endure frequent hardships. Of course, many have this look painted on them, but not often is it the truth, and not often does it represent any significant part of their life story. Although I look like I might have lived in Oregon my whole life, I have actually moved seven times, beginning in the valleys and suburbs of Los Angeles. The first eight years of my life were relatively peaceful, living in a large home only an hours drive away from Hollywood.…

I started out my life in Salt Lake City, Utah at St. Marks Hospital a month early. I then had to stay at Primary Children’s Hospital for the first three months of my life. About the age of four I went to pre-school, on the last day of pre-school is when my mom gives me a locket which is what my learning artifact is. Later, when I was old enough to go kindergarten, I went to Oakdale Elementary School and I was also involved in dance at Utah’s Dance Arts Center. Halfway through kindergarten, I moved from Midville, Utah to a small little town called Hoytsville, Utah.…
