I have varsity lettered in three sports and have taken a multitude of AP classes. I participate in service clubs and volunteer at a variety of places in my community. These activities have helped me become who I am, but the one characteristic that has impacted me the most is that I am the middle child of 7. I have two older sisters and one older brother, and I also have one younger sisters and two little brothers. Growing up in such a large family has molded me into the person I am today by allowing me to learn how to be a better person by learning how to be a peacemaker, improve someone’s day, and how to be humble and not take things too seriously. With such a large family, it is impossible to always get what I want. I have learned the art of diplomacy, knowing how and when to give in to my siblings. …show more content…
Because of this, I have learned how raise any family member’s spirits when they are feeling dow. For one of my younger brothers, it is as simple as inviting him to go outside and play football. With my mom, I allow her to just vent her feelings to me and just listen to what she has to say before offering some words of encouragement. Living life with so many people around me, I have become used to noisy surroundings. Family members are constantly popping in and out of my room to ask questions or just sit on my couch and read. I love the small community that I have with my family. Growing up in a large family, it is hard for me to become too full of myself. My siblings keep me humble, as we are always joking and making fun of each other in jest. Each member of my family has taught me important lessons, from how to appreciate poetry to how to be spontaneous and anything and everything in between. Being from such a large family has taught me more than what I’ve learned at school about love and compassion and reveals more about me than any award that I have

Every single day there are many decisions that need to be made. Choices that can be as little as wake up time and some that are as big as choosing which college to attend. Most people grow up making decisions based upon their own happiness or because they want to follow in the steps of one of their role models. I didn’t have any role models or someone that I wanted to strive to become. Because I didn't want to base my entire life on someone else’s, I had to learn about what drives a person and what makes someone motivated to do common, everyday tasks.…

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

In the article “The Achiever, the Peacemaker, and the Life of the Party: How Birth Order Affects Personality” by Dr. Gail Gross, she explains these scenarios about the birth order and how you may relate to them. Living with my aunts and being the youngest makes me relate to the last scenarios. But later on when my mom had my brother I became the oldest and, I matured, then I started to relate to the first scenario more. Growing up in a small town, everyone knew everyone. You cannot go to the store without running into one of your grandparent’s friends or a coworker of your parents. Before you even introduced yourself the person you were talking to already knew many details about you. Now this can get extremely annoying but nothing is as annoying as when your teachers would have set expectations for you because they had taught your older siblings that had come before you. My two older sisters were not only great students but also great athletes; unfortunately for me this means that my teachers and coaches compared me to them constantly.…

Also, there was the difficulty of integrating my Armenian heritage into my American lifestyle. Over the years, I have learned that growing up in a family business atmosphere has carved me to who I am today. The person I am today is due to the woman who decided to be my family. On December 12th of 2017 when asked to comment on the relationship I have with my Aunt Kimmy, my mom (Anita Stockman) said “I often say that Morgan is the daughter that Kim never had.” This statement gives a great representation of the relationship held between my Aunt Kimmy and I. When reflecting upon myself, I know I’m unique and originality is a good thing. I know I’m hard working, that quality is becoming less and less common. I know that I am bold and can do whatever I want.…
