Figure Drawing
This work means much to me in so many ways. This is the result of the times I have spent after the acceptance to school to improve my poor drawing skills, also a work that gave me the courage by receiving the second place in the school fine work contest.
In the beginning of this drawing I felt huge distance from other students who could draw so well in such a short time. My work seemed immature and lousy. Thoughts like ‘Why can’t I be like that? Do I lack in talents?’ went through my mind. But I had to do something to make a difference, so other than the four hours in the class I have paid the model fee in my own money to draw in the afternoon too. In the evening I couldn’t draw because the natural sun light has faded, so I have

Carved in the Hellenistic period, Draped Relief of Youth is a relief by an unknown artist from Europe. Today this sculpture is on display in the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University. Through the use of symmetric geometry, vertical directionality, and interplay between light and shadow, the artist of Draped Relief of Youth captures the essence of youth, namely ephemerality and unblemished form. A detailed description of the essence of youth, and physical characteristics of this image create a framework that can be used to understand how this artist creates a powerful effect.…

"I am Michelangelo! " I thought to myself, as I put the finishing touches on my clay sculpture. The masterpiece stood at a monstrous height of three inches and was a grotesque combination of red, blue, and pink. I could envision myself holding the trophy for the Delhi Public School Art Contest of 2007. My teacher, Mrs. Sonia, had a different perspective.…

This was the midterm drawing assignment for my Drawing 101 class. The first part was to cut out a 12x12 board and hot glue all kinds of random stuff to it. Over lap it, layer it, tare things apart on it, just fill it were the instructions, so I did. I found all kinds of cool stuff to place on the board and it seemed like every time I turned around something new and cool appeared.…

Let me begin by saying that I loved your letter. It was full of beautiful passages, and to this day I still save them in my memory. I know I owe you an explanation, and I'll get to that point later, but first I'd like to tell you my general thoughts and then answer your questions. I agree with your first point, there is something very special in written communication. It may be slow and impractical for contemporary standards, but it has a charm that technology cannot replicate.…

The image chosen portrays to the reader that when children graduate from the public school system they are only qualified to take tests, more specifically speaking, standardized tests. In the image there are two men; one sitting behind a big desk reading a piece of paper and one on the other side sitting in a small chair with a huge pencil in his hand. Mike Keefe 2002, in the image the man behind the desk holding the piece of paper says to the skinny man sitting in the chair on the other side of the desk, “So, you were educated in the public school system- What does that qualify you to do?” and the man replies to him “Is that a multiple choice, true-false, or fill-in-the-blank question?”…

Drawing focuses on a 2-dimensional surface. The sculptors drew 2-dimensional versions of their sculptures as a plan to create the work, as clarification of their work. They have drawn to the three aspects to “Seeing”: visual perception - the ability of the brain to accurately judge the shapes, relationships and proportions evident in the data that our eyes take in, visualising - our ability to recognise and organise the ‘drawing potential” of a subject, visual literacy -the ability to read and interpret the marks of the drawing itself. Giacometti’s perceptual drawing is almost an exact depiction of his sculpture, utilising line to create tone, thus transforming the image from 2-dimensional to 3-dimensional. Giacometti’s and Goldsworthy’s sculptures are very distinctive, but their drawings are very similar.…

In my dreams, I am a different person than who I am in real life. I can fly, swim for hours without needing a breath of air, and sing as loud as I can. I can see the world in millions of bright colors, smell the most delightful smells, and feel comfortable on any surface. I have never been one to have my report cards hung on the refrigerator for the whole household to see and I grew up thinking I was not smart or worthy of appreciation because I was not good at taking tests or turning in homework. My whole childhood was filled with numbers and letters that instantly put a value on my life.…

The painting I chose was Frank Stella’s “Flin Flon VIII”. It is an acrylic piece on canvas characterized by a mixture of curving and straight lines that interlock, vibrant colors, and an emphasis on the circle in the middle of the canvas. A huge quantity of negative space is present in the painting and the painting emits a smooth texture. The painting is one hundred and eight inches squared, making it one of the largest paintings in the San Diego Art Museum. Its size projects itself on the viewer overwhelming them with its color and size.…

Many theories have been borne about the origin of the Greek Geometric art. One theory unravels it as an expansion of the Mycenaean art, another theory agrees that it had a popular background origin. While others argue that Geometric art was settled due to Doric effects, it still has not given a suitable solution to the setback. Geometric style of ancient Greek art was primarily of vase painting. It began around 900 BC and denotes the last purely Mycenaean-Greek art form that initiated before the arrival of foreign inspiration around 800 BC.…

From the start, I knew the drawing I was working on was going to be the best one I had ever created. I had scratched out a rough concept at four in the morning at an all-night sale in a department store, and it was nothing special. The lines I completed the next day while my parents watched a vintage Bollywood movie, and it looked pretty good. The following evening, I scanned the drawing into my laptop, zoomed in, and gave it a good, hard look.…

We looked at drawings again at the Learning Center like the last week. The first picture we saw was the same picture as the last time, the drawing in which a guy who was overprotected by his mother drew. The picture was the same, but what I felt from the picture was slightly different. I saw something I didnʻt see the last time. Today, I saw the faceless figure and felt a creepy feeling because if I had to draw a person(especially my family member), I would draw a face definitely.…
