“Nothing is more important than empathy for another humen beings suffering. Not a career. Not wealth. Not Intelligence. Certainly not status. We have to feel for one another if we are going to survive with dignity.” Audrey Hepburn said this regarding her humanitarian work with the United Nations Childrens Fund. Audrey Hepburn was a runound actress and model, but she found most pride in her charity work. She held a high stature, but that was never important to her, she found hope most through understanding and compassion. I believe that compassion is more progressive then power. Over the summer I volunteered at an alternative elementary school in Wake County. The kids that attended this school had been through extreme trauma that caused them to have behavior problems; and by extreme trauma I mean they have seen things by the age of five that I will hopefully never have to witness in my whole life. While I was there an eight year old boy got in a n argument with the teacher over the “E” vowl sound sounding too much like the “I” vowl sound. The argument eventually esculated to the student having to be carried out of the classroom, hand and feet, by three administrators. The student came back …show more content…
Compassion is a very strong thing, it can persuade you to agree with a cause, or make you feel more appreciated. There is so much hope provided when you feel understood. It is scientifically proven that humens respond better to adversity when they are understood instead of dominated. Buddhist teachings encourage what they consider the four most important traits; mindful awareness, cultivation of love, compassion, and equanimity. They also believe that through compassion is the one true way of becoming a Buddha yourself. I am not Buddhist but I thing it is a telling sign if there are religions based off of the sole idea of

This shows an exaggeration of how school systems do very little to hold students accountable for their own actions. Instead of sending him to the counselor's office to atleast try to figure out why he/ she is misbehaving the way they are in class to see what can be done to prevent future problems teachers come up with silly disciplines that only makes behaviour worse. Then they come back to school the next day and continue the same behavior they had the previous…

Theoretical construct Based upon analysis of previous research, it is evident that research into compassion is less prevalent than compassion fatigue (Kagen, 2014). According to Gilbert (2005), compassion can be divided into two parts: 1) a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune and 2) a strong desire to help stop the suffering. The desire to help stop the suffering is what separates compassion from empathy. A plethora of research has identified that compassion is reduced when a person is continuously exposed to compassion inducing stimuli, known as compassion fatigue (Conrada & Kellar-Guentherb, 2006).…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

Reverence for life “Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace”- Albert Schweitzer. Yes, I do agree with Schweitzer’s work because if you don’t show compassion and love to everyone you meet how will you ever find peace and love in life. He shows so much compassion for human life, my last reason why I agree with his philosophy is because life is so beautiful how could anyone not show compassion for it. Gorgias was one person that had a opposite theory on life.…

The concept of compassion is significant in the works of Parker Palmer through his discussion of finding our true self. Parker Palmer is a community organizer who focused on spirituality and social changes. Compassion plays an important part in Palmer's work by inspiring people to look back at their birthright gifts as a guide to discover their true self and vocation. We will find many obstacles in life, that would make us wonder whether or not the vocation we had chosen is what we love and is our passion. Also earning how to deal with our obstacles is the strength that motivates us to share our thoughts with the people around us, thoughts of identity, integrity, joy, trust, love and building relationships with our community.…

It is often said that teenagers begin discovering themselves in high school, but I did the opposite- I lost myself. The source of my pleasure and delight shifted from books to parties, writing to boys, and video-games to my social life. Something within me desperately craved to be normal- to no longer be the girl that gets harassed and ostracized for being an “appalling nerd” and because of this, vital aspects of my personality began to change and I morphed into an entirely different person. Through this journey, I learned that my self-hate was a catalyst for self-love and appreciation. Having always been considered an unusual girl in the eyes of my peers, I'd never been truly comfortable in my skin.…
