College Admissions Essay: Be The Best Or Be A Failure

I was hesitant on submitting this essay due to my thoughts of a trash can becoming its new home. Everyone experiences rejection, however, it has made a deeply-rooted connection with me. This connection is not exactly a positive one. The fiery, red hand of rejection always faces me wherever I turn. I constantly try to believe that I am worthy of some kind of recognition, but it usually blows up in my face. It was unsurprising that my self-esteem suffered due to the constant thought that always arose: “Be the best or be a failure”. My family is very traditional and believed in this statement. Many people are not even able to receive an education. Many people do not have families. Many people have continued to accept the fact that they will never step foot on a college campus. I will no longer sit back and accept my rejection. I will no longer continue to be apathetic. As I continue to see more opportunity and less rejection, I will always remember that I have been given something that another person may not have. I do not see community college as a rejection plan B, instead, I see a new opportunity. I see a new opportunity to step in the direction of becoming an engineer with tremendous impact. With this essay, I have been given the opportunity to receive a scholarship to continue pursuing this step toward success. I know that the red, fiery hand of rejection may try to put me down, but the golden hand of opportunity will continue to raise me high. Even if the hand of rejection is triumphant, I will continue to move forward, acknowledging my given opportunities to pursue other alternatives.
