“To say that what they do is not athletic is unfair. On top of all the physicality involved a dancer must make the steps look easy & perform them with a smile on their face. Dance is a beautiful sport & the dancers are beautiful, inspiring athletes!”(Livingston). This quote shows that calling dance a sport is actually correct, and this primary source was able to show that with their past experience that there are many facts that prove that the definition of dance really does line up with the definition of…

Ever since I can remember I have been preoccupied with music. As a child I remember obsessing over my dad's CD collection and spending lengthy afternoons just listening to them with him. My home was never silent there was always music playing in the living room, the sounds of drums being banged on or guitar amps booming from the basement. If you ask my mother she might tell you this was bothersome but if you ask me it was perfect.…
As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…
I do not know who decided to paint the building violet, but I owe them a debt of gratitude too large to pay back in one lifetime for sparking a lifelong passion inside me. As we drove by, I peered out the window and felt immediately attracted to the structure. My eyes moved upwards to find the sign which read Bluefish Music, then down to the guitars lined up along the walls. “I didn’t know there was a guitar shop here”, I pondered.…
In dance, you learn quickly that without pure dedication and drive you will never be successful. While talent can come naturally, skill and technique only come with hard work. I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…

I make my way through the long theatre arts hallway, as I skim through one of the music sheets us background dancers and singers had just finished rehearsing. Then I start to think, man, Saturday rehearsals are exhausting. I can’t believe I did this for twelve hours straight. I’m glad I am not a lead actress. I can only imagine how much more lines, songs and dance moves I’d have to memorize.…
The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…
My First Dance Competition The first time I performed at a dance competition was a very exciting and memorable moment for me. I was six years old and insanely nervous. Typically the nerves hit me while I wait in the wing of the stage for my name to be called, but this time it began the moment I woke up in the morning. I remember having to wake up at about six in the morning in order to have time to get ready and be at the convention center in Wichita when the doors opened at 7:30 a.m.…
A Lover of the Arts Ever since I can remember I have loved , seeing, hearing, and creating art of all kinds. My favorite thing to do when I was little was grab a blank piece of printer paper and whatever I could find to draw and just doodle away. When I was little and I heard music playingI would sing along even if I didn’t know the lyrics and just move my body. By the way…I still dance like a maniac whenever I hear a good jam come on, and no it does not matter where I am. Drawing animals, dancing to music, and my passion for creating fictional stories has followed me all the way to adulthood.…
There are a few improvements that I would like to make throughout the rest of this semester and carry them into my dance career in the future. One of the biggest problems I have is my alignment. I want to be able to work on my anterior pelvic tilt, so that I can form my spine into neutral alignment during class. I hope that fixing my pelvis can allow me to use more of my rotation and turn out. I also want to improve the use of my rotators and turn out muscles, without gripping my glutes or quads.…
