A Legacy of Service Many people have their own opinion of what high character is. I believe that high character can defined as a person that who is willing to serve others above themselves. Being active in church, my family, and my community has taught me so much throughout my life, one of the most influential things they have taught me is to serve others and Christ above myself. I believe that service above one’s self is truly a wonderful example of high character. I have been an active member in my church’s youth group for the past six years. Through these past six years I have been a part of countless vacation bible schools, outreach programs, and three mission trips. Although I had participated in these service projects for many years, I never truly was changed personally until I attended the mission trip this past summer. It was truly a life changing thing for me. One thing that hit home for me is that this was not just happening in Atlanta, but that it was happening in Putnam County. Since we got back from Atlanta, my youth group has stepped up and done various community service projects. I decided that I wanted to do my part in helping others. I applied to be a Team Effort mission’s staff member for this summer. Team Effort is a youth mission’s organization that helps youth put their faith into action as they serve Christ for a week while serving others. Team Effort usually does not choose resent high school graduates as staff, but to my surprise I was chosen. I am very excited to spend my summer as a staff member at a camp in West Virginia. I’m excited to serve Christ and others. I truly would not be able to have this experience if I had not leaned how important service was. Service above one’s self is truly an example of high character, and that is why I feel that I should be a recipient of the Robert Jenkins
