That was the fruit of my labor. The culmination of my time. That moment when it was all worth it. Words cannot describe how much my first successful computer build meant. As far back as I can remember, every step I took, decision I made, self-taught course, led to that moment. From that moment, it's only been up. I can list my grades, GPA, test scores, and class rank. I can compile a list of clubs I've participated in. I can put down as many statistics as I can think of, and none of that would capture who I am. None of that could capture how I got to this point. What made me become me, inspired my drive, and taught me the skills I value most. Anyone can read my numbers; but only you, who reads my …show more content…
That was when I finally able to open new doors and opportunities. I began to study computer hardware, begin learning programming on Code Academy, began to help friends and relatives with computer issues. All of those things continued to drive me towards a career path in the STEM fields. I saved up whatever money I could, I begged and bargained with my parents for donations, and was finally able to buy the necessary computer components. I set about installing them carefully. I set it up, and pressed the power button. That was it. All the knowledge I'd acquired, courses I'd passed, competitions I'd entered. It all paled in comparison to the moment when I built my first computer. The same feeling I still get with every new addition to my build list. The same ear to ear grin when the power supply fan whirrs, the LEDs hold solid and true, and the BIOS flashes its

I am not a journalist; I am a screenwriter, but like you, I have an affinity for writing because it is a fine art, like sculpting or painting. In college, I was a political science major, and I loved it because every course taught me something new and exciting about the structure of governments, the ideologies of foreign countries, or the norms and customs of any given culture. Whether I was documenting the plight of African American children in the South or the rise of the Islamic Republic in Iran, I enjoyed telling stories. I believe journalism requires first-rate storytelling ability, because if the truth is distorted so is the integrity of the journalist. Conveying emotions in an honest and creative manner is a special skill, and anybody who loves the craft of writing understands that cutting through the black and white, is what makes the relationship between author and reader so sacred.…
