College Admissions Essay: A Career As An Acting Class

I decided to take an acting class because acting has always been apart of my life. Since I was a kid my dad had my siblings and I in front of the camera, making dorky little skits and creative movies throughout the summer just to find someway for us all to bond, and it didn't stop when we grew up either. As I got older I started taking interest in directing the films just as much as I took interest in acting in them and because of this we would spend weeks upon weeks coming up with different ideas and clever ways to make movies and plays that would grab someone's attention. We didn’t care if they didn’t make sense or how goofy we were, we just wanted to have fun. Unfortunately though, life …show more content…
I had to start thinking more logically and what was best for my future so I gave up the dreams of acting and looked into more “serious” careers. That is when I started my first year of college and I was completely …show more content…
It also excited me as well though, I wanted to push myself and prove that I can do anything I put my mind too. The warm ups in the beginning of the class were the biggest help for me. It was such an easy way to get to know everyone in the class and to see that we were all there for the same reason. No one cared about how goofy you were or if you messed up, they just wanted to see you succeed. It was fun having to think quickly for some of the warm ups and use your creativity. I was relieved when the first project was a group project, even more relieved when we didn't have to pick our own partners. Everyone in my group instantly clicked and it was fairly easy to come up with an idea that worked for all of us. I enjoyed getting to put in my own ideas that would work for our short skit and getting to collaborate with the others and combine our ideas that seemed fair for everyone. I felt our presentation was a bit more on the goofy side but I don’t think i'd prefer it any other way. The second project that I was apart of was a bit more challenging. Unlike working with my first group, not everyone clicked as easily in the second group. Our ideas

First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. With an abundance of new characters in “When Calls the Heart” this season, sometimes only the most observant viewers might notice the handful of smaller roles that pop up now and then on the show. I was immeasurably excited when I finally figured out who the character Katie Yost was, and once I connected with the actress who portrays her, Larissa Albequerque, I knew at once that I wanted to find out more about this young actress. Thankfully, she was able to set aside some time recently to chat about WCTH as well as give insight into the occasionally overlooked Katie Yost. What inspired you to become an actress? From the time I was 7 or so, I was fascinated with acting.…

Though I am grateful for my midwestern upbringing, I cannot deny the pushes and pulls of the heritage that propels me to look beyond Milwaukee. Every year my family has two Thanksgivings. We have, what you could call, the “traditional” American Thanksgiving then we do it all again the “Dominican way”. This tradition is something that represents both parts of my ethnicity really well. My mother is from the west coast and was brought up in a very traditional European manner.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

As actors, we must come to the realization that we are not in a stable career field. With that being said, it is in our best interest to have a backup plan of other possibilities in the arts so that we do not find ourselves wailing in the idea that we went to college for nothing. I am studying theatre in the performance aspect, concentrating in acting. I am actually leaning more towards the entertainment field rather than the artistic field, which does not require any sort of theatre education on a collegiate level, however I am here because while I want to be a screen actress, I do love theatre and I need the education in case I fail in my hopes and dreams. If that unfortunate occurrence comes true, my “Plan B” is to either be a director or a playwright.…
