Every Time we turn the television we see many of our favorite athletes, actors, ESPN announcers who are often at their peak in physical physique . An Actor I always looked up to was Arnold Schwarzenegger, although he is known for many of his great movies I looked up to him for his dedication to bodybuilding which he redefined the industry. He ignited the fire inside me every time I looked in the mirror, all I saw in myself was a chubby weak self and so I started my long journey of changing my entire body composition for the better so finally I might be proud of myself and feel like I achieved something. Growing up in a household where “healthy” was never discussed and the only thing “healthy” meant to me was the pie chart in health education …show more content…
Not only was I not a fan, these years were the hardest years of school and social life for me. The middle school transition for everyone was a big leap from having recess and one teacher to having eight different teachers and no recess. It was a big time in my youth life where I started getting more freedoms like getting a new cellphone and where school sports started to become a big aspect of every boy's day but mine. Although I was considered an “athlete” I was constantly harassed by many of the boys for being too slow and not up to par with everyone else. This harassment quickly turned from simple harassment to a more serious version of bullying. Being a quiet kid I was, I stored all of these feeling in and never told anyone. With the feeling of depression looming over I resorted to video games where I could act like someone else and this led to my outlet of escaping reality just for a minute. Along with playing video games my appetite greatly increased where bags of chips and cheese soon covered my desk. I was becoming in terms “big” not obese but a size that was considered by many “unhealthy”. With one school left left before highschool I could take anymore bullying so after all options taken I start a “new” life at a new school for my last year of middle

Due to the increasing popularity of college sports in the United States, individuals have begun to question whether college athletes should be paid like professionals. But college athletes are students and amateur players, meaning that college athletes are not given money to play a sport. Student-athletes attend college to get an education, not to be paid to play a sport. Already compensating athletes for playing are scholarships. Also, paying athletes would cause countless problems.…

Students that have been privileged with an athletic scholarship to play in collegiate sports have to understand that it is not a profession but a linkage to develop contacts with influencers and gatekeepers that will impact their future success into the national leagues or other areas of interest. These student athletes should not be concerned with receiving an annual salary or monthly stipend but focused on the most important component of obtaining a higher education which is to achieve academic success in a sound environment and develop professional skills to become an informed, efficient graduate and integrating those educational experiences into their profession as they make the transition after graduation. Any athletic student given…

Personal Statement There are several accomplishments that I consider important. One is the successful completion of military service. The two years I served in the 2nd Infantry Division was an unparalleled experience that cultivated me with duty, respect, courage, integrity, and discipline but most importantly, the determination to pursue my goals assiduously. The other one is completing my Capstone project in which I interned at the EPA region 10 to investigate the corporate social responsibility in the sports industry and what motivates sports teams to adopt sustainability. Subsequently, I worked as a sustainability intern at the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics Department.…

College athletics are huge in the United States of America; sports on a college campus help bring athletes and the student body closer together. Most states in America do not have a professional sports team and most of the state 's citizens devote themselves to their local sports team by endorsing them and purchasing various things that make them somewhat closer to the team. There is a huge issue on whether college athletes should be paid or should they just remain with the way things are already in college sports. I have researched different blogs, newspapers, and sports websites to formulate an opinion on this issue. Throughout my research, I couldn’t find any books that will help me attack this issue.…

Participating in Panther Athletics has had a tremendous role in making me into the person I am today. I have participated in volleyball, diving, and gymnastics over the course of my high school career. Participating in volleyball taught me so much about myself. It showed me how desperately I desire to succeed. After five years of participating in volleyball, I still had no idea what success looked like for me in that sport, so senior year I joined the diving team instead.…

I have always had a passion for personal fitness, however, it was not until last year that this passion reached a true axiom point. In a pursuit to continue to improve and better myself, I found my workouts getting longer, the intensity higher, and the breaks shorter. Unfortunately, while I derived great joy from these fitness sessions, it was taking a significant toll on my body. Each day I felt more and more sore, and soon my body began to break down. I had hit the exhaustion phase of exercise without even noticing.…

There are several useful tools that any athletic director should have at their disposal. One of the most important tools to have for an athletic director is having a long and dependable list of contacts at their disposal. I have not personally gotten to know many individuals before I came to college. During my lower grade levels, I was stuck at home most of the time, and my extracurricular involvement was minimal. When I came to college, I began to become the social person who wanted to interact and get to know every person I talk to.…

Instead of schools focusing their money going outwards towards sports too lessen the expenses towards such thing, and focus it more on our education. There is such a hefty price tag that comes along with college sports, but the main factor that attracts people to invest in such thing is that it can possibly open more opportunities. Opportunities such as “wide spread television coverage, multimillion dollar coaching contracts, and much more. Although this is a seemingly great business it is not the only one that should be focused upon, because even though it does all of the above, a student’s actual academics is a very crucial “fall back option” a student can rely upon. Furthermore this is not possible with colleges spending more on athletic…

The bed mercilessly taunts my exhausted limbs to return but my determined heart persuades me to brave the trial by water once more. As I dive over the ice cold pool, dread and regret fill every moment until my body finally makes contact. For two, sometimes three, hours the situation will only worsen as I repeatedly raise my arms above my head and pull back as hard as possible. Weeks of this pass by, all for the sake of being able to travel through 100 meters of water a few milliseconds faster. Swimming has been my primary sport since the age of eight.…

I am a strong believer in the famous saying “things happen for a reason” it has taught me to have patience, and positivity through out any life obstacles thrown at me. I’ve been an athlete for as long as I can remember, running track, swimming, and most importantly playing football all four years of my high school career. I’ve developed an enormous passion for the sport of football and have worked endless summers and academic years for my senior year season. Unfortunately, that season ended quickly. During a summer practice, prior to one week before my senior year of high school, I was running a play with my teammates as one of them ran into my knee and managed to knock me onto the ground feeling completely numb.…

In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…

To gain insight into the life of female student athletes I interviewed a female student athlete at Wright State University. Gabrielle is a senior studying Sports Science who runs Track and Field. From my conversation with her I could see how proud she was of discipline, strong work ethic, and positive attitude. It seems that she felt as if academic and psychological resources are ample for student athletes and that the support she has found here at Wright State has made her undergraduate degree more enjoyable. Despite these positive feelings about student athletes, she expressed that she was always busy, is board with team drama, has had injuries, and is constantly exhausted.…
