College Admissions Essay: A Career As A College Student

I lived through a difficult hospitalization my sophomore year. Unable to receive direct instruction from my teachers, the hardest problem I ever faced was learning how to teach myself honors courses like chemistry, French, and geometry during my six week hospital stay. Learning a new topic independently was similar to looking at a complex puzzle, seemingly consisting of pieces that rarely fit with any others. I soon realized that if I wanted to successfully teach myself, it was essential to find “love in learning.” I had to not only strive for good grades but also enjoy the learning process, and create an exciting educational experience for myself. Once learning became meaningful, I was able to grasp more information, and apply it to real-life situations. Embracing mistakes, I learned from faults instead of letting them hold me back. …show more content…
Mentally stronger I am now, because of my ability to ameliorate the situation. I solved the problem through perseverance, attempting several solutions, and determining which of those worked best for me. I learned something I will utilize forever, a love for learning. This achievement exemplifies how hardworking and passionate I am towards my education. I believe the College Scholars program will continue to expand my love for learning and educational success. If I was able to love learning in an isolated hospital room, I am eager to see what will happen to me when taught by intelligent professors and engaged with like-minded
