College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Film

Since I was young, I have always loved movies. I love movies so much that I decided to go into the film industry as a film director, editor, and producer. Since I began my journey on the filmmaking path, I have directed, produced, and edited over forty short films, and even produced a feature film this summer. Movies are my life. However, when I am not making movies, I do enjoy exercising, reading about the industry, going to class, and talking with the professional staff at my workplace.

I have tried my best to get involved on campus since I started attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My first year here, I immediately joined the campus filmmaking group, CINEMA 16 and have since became the Vice President for the organization. I have also taken an active role in my learning community and have become a peer mentor for the organization to help new students adjust to campus life. Also through my learning community, I have had the opportunity to begin working on a documentary which would highlight the program’s history and explain to new students, and the world, what we are.

I am currently in my Junior year at UNL, and have kept a cumulative GPA of 3.90. Since my Freshman year, I have worked very hard to keep my grades up, and have since been listed on the Dean’s List four times, and received a certificate of high academic achievement from the University. I have also been able to foster great relationship with my professors in the filmmaking program, and speak with them frequently about my future aspirations, any questions I have, or what they have done in their past. I truly have had a wonderful experience academically at UNL and hope to continue that experience for the next two

However, it did teach me a great deal. But it was all worth it.…

This initiative is called The EXL Center, which reaches out to students and has an incredible number of ways to encourage student success. It is very hands on and extremely fun, and I film sort of a "talk show" called EXL-ON.
